Beer barrels and stones thrown at police in Sunderland as UK unrest rolls on | UK news | The Guardian

…North East mayor Kim McGuinness wrote on X: “I’m appalled by the scenes from Sunderland. Make no mistake, if your response to tragedy is to use it to commit violence, to abuse others, attack the police and damage property you stand for nothing except thuggery. It’s not protest.

“It’s crime and disorder. You don’t speak for Sunderland. You don’t speak for this region. Those grieving in Southport will take no comfort from this.

“We believe that the community here in Southport, and the country as a whole, must now come together to challenge hatred based on people’s identities. In particular, the rising levels of Islamophobia must not be allowed to fester in our society.”

A crowd of about 200 anti-racist protesters gathered outside the Abdullah Quilliam mosque in Liverpool on Friday evening after rumours of a far-right protest there. Later a small scuffle broke out between the groups…

Navajo Nation Bans Uranium, Radioactive Substances from Entering Its Land – Havana Times

By Democracy Now

HAVANA TIMES – The Navajo Nation has temporarily banned any transport of uranium and other radioactive material over its land without an explicit approval. The executive order issued by Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren will be in effect for at least the next six months. Earlier this week, Navajo police attempted to stop two trucks carrying uranium ore across the reservation from an Arizona mine to a Utah processing mill. Nygren said Energy Fuels Inc., which owns the mine and processing mill, did not provide any notice that the trucks would be crossing through Navajo Nation. Nygren said in a statement, “We’re taking this stance of interpreting and executing the law to ensure the safety of our people and respect for Navajo sovereignty.”

Do Old Habits Die Hard? – Belladonna’s Flashlight

I guess it all depends on how hard you want to kill and bury that habit!

Or maybe help is needed to bury it. Whatever the case may be, bury that habit quickly, especially if it’s destroying your quality of life. Seek out a support group, a therapist, or a trusted friend. There’s no shame in asking for help when you need it.

So, today is confession time!

Just recently, I had a birthday, and I woke up the day feeling like I wanted to punch a hole in the wall. Not because I’m not grateful for being here, but because getting older is scary!

Now, before anyone says it’s a privilege to get older, let me stop you right there.

I’m deeply grateful to be here. I’m fully aware of the alternative to growing older, and I don’t want that either. This gratitude is what keeps me going.

What truly scares me about getting older is the thought of not achieving my life goals. I’m tough on myself and despise the idea of being average or not giving my best. To avoid mediocrity, I set ambitious goals for each year of my life.

If I’m not progressing, then I’m failing. And failing scares the shit out of me.

I’ve seen what happens when we let our fears and obstacles control us, and it’s not pretty. It’s a life half-lived, and that’s not what I want for myself or for you.

This is why I’m writing this today for my “Look After Yourself Friday” post.

I’ve decided that from now on, when my birthday approaches, I’m taking my kids and husband on a HUGE BANGING VACATION so that we can honor yours truly.

I’m ditching my old habit of trying to stay low-key on my birthday and not make a big deal of it. I don’t care if I accomplished all my goals or half of them; a beach vacation will be planned, and a good time will be had.

I’m on a mission to celebrate and kill that lousy habit by partying like a rockstar. OH, AND I’VE ALREADY STARTED.

What’s a habit you want to kick? How are you looking after yourself today?

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!
