Humans of New York

“My friend and I were walking home from watching live music, and two police officers approached us. We weren’t being loud. We weren’t drunk. But they told my friend they needed to search him. They told us they were looking for a 5’10” black male, which happens to be the description of most men in this neighborhood. So that’s an excuse to search every black male who walks down the street. And that’s not right. My friend was a flight attendant. He had a college degree. He was wearing a button down collared shirt. He tried to ask, ‘Why?’ But I told him to be quiet. I told him to do as he was told. Because I didn’t want to escalate. I didn’t want the guns to come out. I didn’t want him to be another hashtag. So they emptied his pockets, they patted him down, and they let him go. And I was so mad afterward. Because I’m very pro-black. I go to protests. I’m in a black sorority. But in that moment I couldn’t speak, because I was too afraid of what might happen.”

The murder of the Jordanian writer(N.Hatter) , a slap of terrorism ?

Radicalism is not just a sudden attitude and reaction of oppression by governments or who ever. It is a result of a lifestyle that teaches children how to be careful from the other. How they are right and the others are always wrong. That there is a conspiracy against them. That once upon millennia we were the best of nations. We foster tribal thinking from the moment we tell our children that being a Muslim means that you are not like the Christian and vice versa. When we separate between people and put them in ranks and statuses. When we preach what we do not practice.

I cannot see a difference in the two murders. Except that the murder of the writer created a sense of fear, whereas, women die in the same way daily, and it seems to be just a norm….

His society needs to be deconstructed.

There is something that we lose each passing moment within our own humanity. As if we are experiencing a failure of mankind….

Is it terrorism, fundamentalism, racism, tribalism, or is it simply a way of living. A natural consequence of education, upbringing?

The rage that took form in people’s reactions after the assassination of the Jordanian writer Nahed Hatter, as a revenge from some “bearded” assigned through god man for a caricature that the deceased had previously posted a few months back. The assassination took place on the entrance of the Supreme Court where the deceased was heading to, in order to hear a final rule against him in that case.

As if those fundamentalists are specialized with libels related with cartoons. You draw a caricature, you get offensive, and you deserve to be killed.

Of course it felt sad. What happened brought memories of similar such crimes. Farraj Fuda was shot to his death as he was going out of a seminar a decade or two ago. Salman Rushdie is still…

Nahed Hattar, Jordan, and the Muslim World

Nervana

nahad-hattar

Nahed Hattar, a 56-year-old Christian Jordanian writer has been murdered. He was shot three times outside a court in Amman, where he was facing charges of sharing a cartoon deemed to be “offensive” to Islam. Hattar was arrested in August after posting a cartoon that mocked jihadists on his Facebook page. Mr. Hattar was charged with inciting sectarian strife and insulting Islam before being released on bail in early September. According to several reports, Mr. Hattar’s killer was arrested and police are investigating the murder.

The provocative cartoon depicts an Arab man enjoying himself in Paradise with two women and saying to God (who was checking on him): “Yes Lord, get me a glass of wine and tell Angel Gabriel to bring me some cashews. After that, send me an immortal servant to clean the floor and take the empty plates with you.”

Hattar’s murder is yet another tragic event…

Trump Ohio Campaign Chair Resigns After Blaming Racism On Obama: Gothamist – “Self-delusion is a powerful drug”

Instead, they got a prominent Trump surrogate unabashedly and unashamedly exposing her own ignorance: “If you’re black and you haven’t been successful in the last 50 years, it’s your own fault,” Miller said. “You’ve had every opportunity, it was given to you. You’ve had the same schools everybody else went to. You had benefits to go to college that white kids didn’t have. You had all the advantages and didn’t take advantage of it. It’s not our fault, certainly.”Miller dismissed African-American voters in the area, despite the fact that they constitute 16% of Mahoning county’s population, and voter turnout in Ohio was higher among black people than white people in the last two presidential elections. She instead suggested that there was low turnout among black people because, “I don’t think that’s part of the way they’re raised. For us, I mean, that was something we all did in our families, we all voted.”Then there were her comments on racial tension as she was growing up in the 1960s: “Growing up as a kid, there was no racism, believe me. We were just all kids going to school…I don’t think there was any racism until Obama got elected. We never had problems like this … Now, with the people with the guns, and shooting up neighborhoods, and not being responsible citizens, that’s a big change, and I think that’s the philosophy that Obama has perpetuated on America.”

A Single Migration From Africa Populated the World, Studies Find – The New York Times

They found that the ancestors of the KhoiSan, hunter-gatherers living today in southern Africa, began to split off from other living humans about 200,000 years ago and were fully isolated by 100,000 years ago. That finding hints that our ancestors already had evolved behaviors seen in living humans, such as language, 200,000 years ago.
