Trump: ‘If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will’: Shanghaiist

“Well if China is not going to solve North Korea, we will. That is all I am telling you.”Asked if that meant dealing with Pyongyang one on one, Trump said, “I don’t have to say any more. Totally.”Dennis Wilder, a former CIA China analyst, tried to shed some light on what exactly Trump meant with these cryptic statement. Wilder told Financial Times that the president is trying to warn China that the US is about to begin instituting “secondary sanctions” on North Korea, including sanctions on “Chinese companies and individuals who deal with North Korea.”Still, others aren’t so sure that Trump will back up his tough talk.

The visit of Egypt’s Sisi to Washington: The illusion of chemistry and the challenges of reality

Good analysis – Although – don’t give too much credit to Trump really giving any thought or Tweets for/to Egypt. He is the only thing on his radar. But offer his children a cushy deal on a Trump Hotel at Giza and he just might get interested.

On Monday April 3, US President Donald Trump will host Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for talks in Washington. The last visit of an Egyptian president to the United States was by former ousted president Hosni Mubarak, in 2004.

The Egyptian leadership seems to have spent much time and effort planning this trip to post-Obama America, with three possible main goals in mind: financial support from the new Trump administration, a clearer American stance toward the Muslim Brotherhood, and kick starting a joint foreign policy that allows Egypt to be an important player in a wider regional alliance.

First, to achieve financial support from the Trump administration, which has already vowed to cut foreign aid, President Sisi first has to convince the American administration his regime is stable and that the chance of a revolution of…

In Life’s Mirror #poetry #uganda #photography

penned in moon dust

In the mirror of a water bucket I see:

A blur of color

children with bright hearts

flames cannot douse courage

little girls pump, pump, pump

feet steadily move up the hill

“more water”

little heads bear yellow water jugs

school books brown edged

blue chairs too hot to touch

 ashen are next day’s reflections

parents anxious to know education’s fate

stories told, songs we sang, things we made

in the mirror of my heart

 stout hearts of orphans

 smiles contagious

over flow of son’s rays of love

*

Fire rages fierce

days merge breeze takes them away

color filled smiles

Today’s prompt at Poet’s United is “Mirror.”

‘The occupation will collapse. And then we’ll build a moral society here’ | +972 Magazine

To avert one’s eyes from the occupation is to cooperate with the wicked regime. To yield before violence is to strengthen it. To remain silent before racism is to legitimize it. To surrender to fear and intimidation is to accept this dark reality, allowing it to continue and intensify. Each day that goes by without resistance is another day of deteriorating democracy. Each day that goes by without a struggle is another day of violence against Palestinian children. Each day that goes by without solidarity is another day in which racism and nationalism trump morality and justice. Each day that goes by in which we neglect to merge our society’s tremendous forces — of all colors, ethnicities, and organizations — is another day which strengthens the violent nationalist occupying regime’s belief that nothing can stop it, and that they can carry on with their nationalist project of the occupation undisturbed. That they can continue to destroy, to injure, to harm, to kill.

Donald Trump and Russia: The Spanish connection with Trump’s Russia scandal | In English | EL PAÍS

On February 1, Alexander Torshin, 63, a Russian politician and banker who is close to Vladimir Putin and whom the Spanish anti-corruption prosecutor and the Civil Guard define in their reports as a godfather from a notorious Russian mafia organization, had in his diary for the next day an appointment to meet in Washington with the world’s most powerful man: Donald Trump. The encounter was due to take place before an official and well-attended breakfast meeting, which Torshin attended as the head of a Russian delegation. The meeting was canceled that very night, according to sources from the White House, given the wave of criticism in the US press related to the influence of determined Russian circles in President Trump’s power teams. But the information reveals the heights to which this person, who has been investigated by the Spanish authorities, had reached in his rise to the upper echelons of the American leader’s circle.

Death: an occupational hazard in Donbass | News | DW.COM | 01.04.2017

the list of the early separatist leaders still alive in Eastern Ukraine has again gotten shorter. Many of those men have been murdered outright. In February, Mikhail Tolstykh was killed when an incendiary rocket was fired into his Donetsk office. A few months prior, Arsen “Motorola” Pavlov was killed when a bomb exploded in his apartment building’s elevator. Both men had been presented as war heroes on Russian state television. Separatists blame “Ukrainian saboteurs” for the murders – foreign agents in communist parlance. Kyiv denies the accusations.
