A Migrant Boy Rejoins His Mother, but He’s Not the Same
Israel Doesn’t Want to Be My State
It seems the only hope for the remaining millions of Palestinians to avoid losing what is left of their home is to find a Jewish mother who will agree to adopt them. I am fluent in Israel’s language and culture. I respect its laws. And the new Nationality Law rejects me.

‘Brexit created doubt’: Romanian workers turn backs on UK farms
Oops

Weak pound and strong economies elsewhere make UK a less enticing prospect for seasonal staff
“This is the hardest year,” says Alexandru Barbacaru, director of Est-Vest Services, a Romanian employment agency for temporary workers for the UK.
Sitting in his office in central Bucharest, his desk cluttered with filled-in application forms and tax documents for past and present workers, Barbacaru explains the mounting difficulties for companies such as his, which for years have helped supply British farms with the fruit pickers and other labourers they need to bring in their harvests.
An open letter to the NFL’s owners | Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Ironically, the other owners remind me of the hipster who got a Japanese character tattooed on his neck thinking it said loyalty. but it actually said noodles. They think they’re showing strength, patriotism, and soothing ruffled fan feathers – but they’re actually saying noodles. To deny players the right to express their frustration in a peaceful manner is a disgrace to the Constitution, the opposite of patriotism. By compromising ethics to economy, you show moral weakness.

To deny professional athletes the right to express dissent in a peaceful manner is a disgrace to the Constitution, the opposite of patriotism and shameful moral weakness
Dear NFL owners:
Whew! What a tumultuous year for your league. Slipping attendance and ratings. Continuing concussion controversy. Lawsuits from cheerleaders who refuse to shut up and smile. Domestic violence accusations against players. The Papa John’s founder mouthing off about something or other. Players taking a national anthem knee (NAK, for short). President Trump’s “problematic” rambling. Commissioner Roger Goodell under siege from, well, everybody. Bet it makes you fellas long for the good old days when all you had to worry about was Janet Jackson’s nip slip. Where’s faithful Hodor when you need someone to hold the door against relentless attackers?
Outrage after Aloha Poke Co tells Hawaiians to stop using ‘Aloha’ in business names
Hawaii cannot call itself Aloha State?

Chicago-based poke chain sent cease-and-desist letters to a native Hawaiian business in Anchorage, Alaska, and other shops around the country
Hawaii residents are calling out a Chicago-based poke chain after it tried to stop other US restaurants selling the trendy sushi bowls from using “Aloha” in their business names, accusing the company of cultural appropriation.
In May, lawyers for Aloha Poke Co, sent cease-and-desist letters to a native Hawaiian family business in Anchorage, Alaska, ordering it to stop using “Aloha” or “Aloha Poke” in its name, Aloha Poke Stop. Aloha Poke Co had done the same to other shops around the country, including at least one in Hawaii, where poke originated.
Trump turns against ‘total joke’ Koch brothers after North Dakota snub
ROTFLMAO: “On Tuesday, the president duly shot back at the Kochs, using a term of derision familiar among his supporters on the hard right: “The globalist Koch Brothers, who have become a total joke in real Republican circles, are against Strong Borders and Powerful Trade. I never sought their support because I don’t need their money or bad ideas.”

- Conservative billionaires won’t back Republican in Senate race
- President: ‘I made them richer. Their network is overrated’
After the Kochs said they would not back the Republican in a key Senate race, Donald Trump duly took aim at the conservative billionaire brothers, calling them “globalists” and a “total joke” with a “highly overrated” political network.

The ‘Paris harasser’ video shows why women fear male violence | Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett
Challenging an entitled man can put you at risk. What happened to Marie Laguerre is what frightens us most
Many women have been in a situation where a man has approached them, only for it to turn uncomfortable when they reject his advances. No doubt I will be accused of generalisation in saying this, so I would advise those who don’t believe me to ask women they know about their experiences of rejecting men.
Male reactions can range from verbal abuse (counterintuitively, “slut” seems to be the insult of choice when a woman declines an offer of sex from a man in the street), to refusing to take no for an answer, harassment, stalking and physical violence. The last of these reactions is the most extreme the one many of us fear most.
Facebook removes accounts amid fears of Russian meddling in US midterms
32 pages! Not getting off the hook that easy. My bet that there are more than 1,000 false “people” spreading fake news and distrust. Will they crack down on their own? Doubt it – the pressure has to stay on because their urge to make money on clicks, likes, reposting is just too great. Loyalty to USA or democracy is last thing on Facebook’s mind.

Company reports ‘coordinated inauthentic behaviour’ as it deletes 32 political pages and accounts
Facebook has detected “coordinated inauthentic behaviour” before the United States midterm elections that could be linked to the Internet Research Agency (IRA), a Russian-based group with ties to the Kremlin.
On Tuesday, the social network removed 32 pages and accounts from Facebook and Instagram that were pushing American political stances and organising events, including a protest against a Unite the Right rally due to take place in Washington next week.
