Exclusive: US warns it will reject measure over language on sexual health in latest example of hardline abortion stance

The US is threatening to veto a United Nations resolution on combatting the use of rape as a weapon of war because of its language on reproductive and sexual health, according to a senior UN official and European diplomats.

The German mission hopes the resolution will be adopted at a special UN security council session on Tuesday on sexual violence in conflict.

DRC notes 23 new Ebola cases as another hospital attacked | CIDRAP

Over the weekend and through today, the ministry of health in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) recorded 23 new Ebola cases and 19 deaths, while a Katwa hospital saw a violent attack that left one of the assailants dead. The totals swell outbreak numbers to 1,340 cases, of which 1,274 are confirmed. The number of deaths rose to 874.

Gaza Christians wait for permits to visit Jerusalem and Bethlehem at Easter

Israel yet to approve applications after apparent shift in its decision to limit travel to over-55s

Hundreds of Palestinian Christians in Gaza are still anxiously waiting on Saturday to hear whether Israel would grant them exit permits in time to join Easter services in Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

In previous years many, though not all, of Gaza’s 1,100-strong Christian minority have been granted exit permits to Jerusalem and the West Bank for worship and to visit relatives at Easter and Christmas. But last week the Israeli military announced that only 200 Christians over the age of 55 would be allowed to travel to Jordan – without stopping in Jerusalem.
