Mr Johnson is attempting to distance himself from his party’s grinding destruction of the justice system in England and Wales after nine years of austerity and outsourcing. Only last year the chief inspector of prisons said that present conditions in jails have “no place in an advanced nation”. The Khan case threatens to illuminate how the Tory policies have made sure prison does not work, with deadly consequences for the general public.

Marc Conway, who served time in jail, intervened with others including murderer James Ford

A former prisoner has been named as the second person who intervened to take down the perpetrator of the London Bridge attack.

Marc Conway, who was formerly in prison at HMP Grendon, now works as a policy officer at the Prison Reform Trust.

Six more countries join Trump-busting Iran barter group

Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden sign up to Instex mechanism that sidesteps US sanctions

Paris, London and Berlin on Saturday welcomed six new European countries to the Instex barter mechanism, which is designed to circumvent US sanctions against trade with Iran by avoiding use of the dollar.

“As founding shareholders of the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (Instex), France, Germany and the United Kingdom warmly welcome the decision taken by the governments of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, to join Instex as shareholders,” the three said in a joint statement.

Woman Challenging Rep. Ilhan Omar Officially Kicked Off Twitter After Multiple Threatening and Islamophobic Posts

Congressional candidate Danielle Stella was banned from Twitter after calling for the trial and hanging of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who Stella is challenging for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district next year. Stella has been spreading a conspiracy theory that Omar shared intelligence with Iran.

Prime minister says terrorists convicted of the most serious offences should never be released from prison

Boris Johnson on Saturday said that those convicted of the most serious terrorist offences should never be released from prison, as arguments over the blame for Friday’s London Bridge attack were thrust centre stage into the election campaign.

The prime minister reacted to the latest terrorist incident – in which three people died, including the assailant – by promising a package of hardline reforms which also included mandatory minimum 14-year sentences, an end to automatic early release for terrorist and extremism offences, and a new system under which those convicted will have to serve every day of sentences handed down by judges.
