Wes Moore apologizes for ‘honest mistake’ in claiming a Bronze Star

“While serving overseas with the Army, I was encouraged to fill out an application for the White House Fellowship by my deputy brigade commander,” Moore said. “In fact, he helped me edit it before I sent it in. At the time, he had recommended me for the Bronze Star. He told me to include the Bronze Star award on my application after confirming with two other senior-level officers that they had also signed off on the commendation.”

Kamala Harris tells Georgia crowd she will put ‘working class families first’ | US elections 2024 | The Guardian

…“Unlike Donald Trump, I will always put the middle class and working class families first,” Harris said.

Some in the crowd said they were there to support a presidential campaign that says it’s listening in a state where Black voters haven’t always had a powerful voice – and in a city, Savannah, that hasn’t seen a visit from a presidential candidate since 1990, according to Mayor Van Johnson. But it’s these voters who were integral to flipping Georgia in 2020, electing the state’s first Black and Jewish senators in representatives Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff and securing a Democratic majority in the Senate…

Israeli military kills five in airstrike on humanitarian aid convoy in Gaza | Israel-Gaza war | The Guardian

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have said they carried out an airstrike on a humanitarian aid convoy in Gaza aimed at “armed assailants” trying to hijack it, but the charity that organised the aid said those killed were employees of the transport company it was working with.

The convoy, organised by the US-based NGO Anera, was carrying medical supplies and fuel to an Emirati-run hospital in Rafah on Thursday evening at the time of the attack. Its route had been coordinated in advance with the IDF, under a deconfliction process intended to prevent aid vehicles being bombed.

Anera’s Palestine country director, Sandra Rasheed, said: “This is a shocking incident. The convoy, which was coordinated by Anera and approved by Israeli authorities, included an Anera employee who was fortunately unharmed.

Over 1 million Chinese restaurants close amid economic downturn — Radio Free Asia

As more than a million restaurants closed their doors in recent months, diners in China are ordering takeout instead, amid skyrocketing numbers of food delivery riders.

Amid a flagging economyglitzy shopping malls, noodle shops and eateries have been shutting down across the country, according to local media reports.

More than a million food and beverage outlets, including 30,000 noodle shops, shut down in the first half of this year, close to the total for the whole of last year, catering industry news service Canguanju reported.

The report came as Taiwanese dumpling chain Din Tai Fung, which currently has 30 stores in China, including Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, said it would shutter 14 of its stores in northern China, citing the economic downturn…

Ford joins list of companies walking back DEI policies

The list is long … Lowe’s, Zoom, Snap, Tesla, Microsoft, Door Dash, Home Depot, Harley-Davidson, John Deere … and on it goes.

I don’t understand.  Long and hard has been the fight for equality for women, minorities, and the LGBTQ community, but we made progress.  Slowly but surely, equality in pay, employment opportunities, educational opportunities, housing and more became reality.  But today, every damn day another company announces it is either rolling back or completely dissing its DEI initiatives.  WHY???

DEI – Diversity, Equity, Inclusion.  What’s wrong with that?  Why do we insist on turning the clocks back?  Is this nation really that bigoted that we cannot see our way clear to provide the same opportunities for everyone, regardless of the colour of their skin, their gender, or who they love?

I do not understand why we cannot simply LIVE AND LET LIVE.  Colour me confused.  And disgusted.

There is a person named Robert “Robby” Starbuck who has been actively targeting companies with DEI policies in place, many of which have since reversed their policies.  Mr. Starbuck is obviously a racist, a misogynist, and a homophobe, but who the hell does he think he is, imposing his bigotries on the rest of us?  What next, Mr. Starbuck?  Will you restore old plantations and return Black people to slavery?  Make it illegal for women to vote and allow companies to pay women less simply because they don’t have a penis?  Thus far his efforts have been quite successful …  Grrrrrrrrrrrr …

So yes, I’m confused … confused as to why so many companies seem to think it’s a good idea to return to the dark ages, why they even listen to fools and idiots like Mr. Starbuck, and why … why we have to keep fighting the same battles over and over and over just to live free, just to ensure that everyone has the same rights and opportunities.  Yes, I am WOKE and damn proud of it.  I am also confused as hell.
