EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement in jeopardy — EUROPE DIPLOMATIC

Following the publication by the UK government of the draft “United Kingdom Internal Market Bill” on 9 September 2020, Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič called for an extraordinary meeting of the EU-UK Joint Committee to request the UK government to elaborate on its intentions and to respond to the EU’s serious concerns. A meeting took place today […]

EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement in jeopardy — EUROPE DIPLOMATIC

Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič stated that if the Bill were to be adopted, it would constitute an extremely serious violation of the Withdrawal Agreement and of international law.

If adopted as proposed, the draft bill would be in clear breach of substantive provisions of the Protocol: Article 5 (3) & (4) and Article 10 on custom legislation and State aid, including amongst other things, the direct effect of the Withdrawal Agreement (Article 4). In addition, the UK government would be in violation of the good faith obligation under the Withdrawal Agreement (Article 5) as the draft Bill jeopardises the attainment of the objectives of the Agreement.

The EU does not accept the argument that the aim of the draft Bill is to protect the Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement. In fact, it is of the view that it does the opposite.

Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič called on the UK government to withdraw these measures from the draft Bill in the shortest time possible and in any case by the end of the month. He stated that by putting forward this Bill, the UK has seriously damaged trust between the EU and the UK. It is now up to the UK government to re-establish that trust.

We Go Fish

dry existence

every day was hot summer

smiles at the well

Life can feel dry even when we have easy access to water. Jesus met a woman by a well. Though the woman had access to water, her soul was thirsty.

“Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst… a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.”

~John 4: 13 & 14

The well in Jesus’ village never runs dry…

In The Midst of … #9/11 #crisis #suffering – We Go Fish

We watched the screen as the second tower was hit. We knew it was not an accident — the Pentagon was already making a plan; that’s when I felt the shock wave ripple under me. The Bible tells us that suffering is inevitable. It’s what we do after we are a child soldier or a survivor of 9/11 that matters. I learned to love my neighbors no matter where they are…or what they have done. What will you learn or what have you learned from your time of crisis?

Colonialismo do século 21 – implementado por algumas ONGsCuja sobrevivência está em jogo aqui, Survival? A sobrevivência das florestas tropicais e dos povos indígenas ou da indústria de joias de ouro e diamantes de luxo? — Barbara Crane Navarro

21st century colonialism – implemented by some NGOsWhose survival is at stake here, Survival? The survival of tropical forests and indigenous peoples or the gold and luxury diamond jewelry industry?

Study finds more restaurant-goers among COVID-19 patients – StarTribune.com

Surveying 314 people who sought outpatient treatment for respiratory symptoms, the researchers found those who tested positive for COVID-19 were more than twice as likely to have been places in the prior two weeks where food and drinks were served compared with those whose symptoms weren’t related to the pandemic.

The two groups were similar in rates of shopping, attending churches and going to gyms, suggesting an independent risk for people who inevitably had to take off masks while eating and drinking at establishments, said Dr. Heidi Erickson, a co-author of the study and a pulmonary and critical care specialist at HCMC in Minneapolis.

“In these places where people can’t necessarily wear their masks, where they’re eating and drinking, it’s not surprising to me at all that there would be increased transmission,” Erickson said Thursday.

NYT reporter removed from Trump rally in Michigan | TheHill

A New York Times reporter claims she was removed from President Trump’s campaign rally in Freeland, Mich., on Thursday after campaign staff located her using images she posted on Twitter.

As the rally was getting started, Kathy Gray noted on Twitter that out of the thousands of people who were at the rally, “maybe 10% have masks.” Gray then posted a photo of Air Force One with the caption “And so it begins” shortly before the president began speaking at the rally.

“I’ve just been kicked out of the trump rally,” Gray tweeted less than 15 minutes later.

Trump screamed at Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch in “humongous blowup” over “unfair” coverage: report

Individuals close to Murdoch told Sherman that the Fox Corporation co-chair believes Trump will lose in November. Murdoch seems more concerned with navigating his empire through a post-Trump political world, according to Sherman.

“This is about business for Rupert,” one source told Vanity Fair.

Murdoch’s son, James, and daughter-in-law, Kathryn, each gave $615,000 to the Biden Victory Fund in June, according to Federal Election Commission filings. The next month, James stepped down from the family’s News Corp. media empire, citing editorial disagreements.
