Stillness — Perditus

Still drops of water on the window Motionless cat staring something taken her fancy 🌑 Stillness in the air For nothing is moving except the slow beat of my heart 🌑 A time for quiet contemplation collect one’s thoughts For calm and peace is found

Pham Doan Trang was charged with opposing the state just after the country held talks with the US on human rights

Vietnamese authorities have arrested Pham Doan Trang – one of the nation’s most prominent independent journalists.

Trang was detained on Tuesday evening in Ho Chi Minh City, the same day Vietnam and the US held the 24th annual US-Vietnam human rights dialogue, which included talks on issues such as the right to freedom of expression.

Notre Dame’s President Faces an Angry Campus After Getting the Coronavirus

Students have petitioned for his resignation, angry over what they consider his hypocrisy as well as the rising tide of infections on campus. Others have reported him to a coronavirus hotline for violating his own mask mandate. The student newspaper called the affair “embarrassing” in an editorial. And the faculty senate stopped one vote short on Tuesday night of considering a vote of no confidence in his leadership.

Students and faculty are furious that the Rev. John I. Jenkins failed to wear a mask at a White House ceremony and then later tested positive for the virus.

Trump calls Covid diagnosis ‘blessing from God’ amid false treatment claims | US news | The Guardian

The president also promised to bring the drug to the American people for free, hawking it – falsely – as a “cure”. There is no cure for Covid-19.

Trump’s latest claims echoed his previous endorsements of unapproved treatments – from hydroxychloroquine to bleach. Even if the drug is effective, it has not yet been granted emergency authorization for use by the general public.

According to CDC guidelines, it would seem Trump should not be in the Oval Office. The CDC has that anyone “sick or infected” with Covid-19 “should separate themselves from others by staying in a specific ‘sick room’” – meaning they should not go to and from an office in which they interact with others.

CDC: COVID-19 spread slowed in Arizona after public health orders | CIDRAP

Average daily COVID-19 case counts peaked at 4,148 to 4,377 cases from Jun 29 to Jul 2, leveled off to 3,609 to 4,160 cases from Jul 3 to 12, and further dropped roughly 75% from 3,506 cases on Jul 13 to 867 cases on Aug 7. Public health measures were then extended to the end of August to further stem virus transmission.

While the authors, from the CDC and ADSHS, said the public health efforts seemed to have successfully stemmed COVID-19 transmission, they cautioned against inferring that they caused the case count fluctuations, that there was universal compliance with the mitigation measures, or that more populous states would necessarily see the same results.

“Enhanced mitigation measures should be implemented by communities and persons to slow COVID-19 spread, particularly before a vaccine or therapeutic treatment becomes widely available,” the authors wrote. “State, local, and tribal officials are best positioned to continually monitor data and collaborate to determine the level and types of enhanced mitigation required.”
