Chaman Yanomami, Amazonas, Venezuela

As Yanomami spokesperson Davi Kopenawa says in the chapter “Metal Smoke” of his book “The Fall from the Sky”: “This is what our elders say who are great shamans. These are the words of the xapiri, which they convey to us. These are the ones I want white people to hear. … Once the artisanal miners got to our house … They soiled the rivers with yellowish mud and filled them with xawara epidemic fumes from their machines. I saw them ravage the sources of the river with the greed of hungry dogs. All this to find gold, so that the whites can use it to make teeth and adornments or keep it locked in their homes.… The thinking of these whites is clouded by their greed for gold. They are evil beings. ”

It’s official the government wants children to be hungry. — The poor side of life (UK)

Well yesterday the government hit an all time low. Not only have they purposely neglected to protect the public from Covid 19, they’re now allowing our children to become hungry. As a covid 19 sufferer I know exactly how vicious this virus can be. Thousands have does from it and the secondary infections that follow. […]

It’s official the government wants children to be hungry. — The poor side of life

Yesterday a motion was put forward in parliament to ensure that all children would receive free school meals in the autumn and Christmas holidays.

Despite putting up a good fight, Tory MPs voted it down. They don’t care if our children are hungry, not do they care if we die from Covid 19.

Boris Johnson’s cruel, evil Government voted down a motion which would have prevented a million kids going hungry over the half term & Christmas holidays.

This is proof that they don’t care and will never care. Some Tory MPs are disgusted in their behaviour as are some ex Tory MPs.

The fact is that the Tory party has always been cruel and judgemental. They believe that the working class person is responsible for their own poverty, and they fail to acknowledge that they are the ones responsible for this.

Germany reports a new daily record of cases. – What Now News 24

On Thursday, Germany reported 11,200 new cases, a new daily record of cases since the pandemic began. It is a sharp jump over the previous day when 7,830 cases were reported. Thirty people died on Thursday.

Germany, like other European countries have been experiencing a surge in cases for several weeks. This prompted German authorities to increase coronavirus measures such as a ban of large gatherings. In Berlin, individuals are forced to wear a mask even outside. A press conference is expected on Thursday.

Robert Koch Institute (RKI) chief, Lothan Wieler blamed the surge in cases on private gatherings:

Japanese reaearchers led by Professor Kawaoka Yoshihiro at the University of Tokyo found that masks offers protection against coronavirus, but not perfectly. There are ways, where coronavirus particles could still manage to pass through, even if the masks are professional-grade.

Reserchers built a secure chamber to test the masks’ ability to block the coronavirus. In the chamber, two mannequins were placed with a mask on, facing each other. To one of the mannequins, a nebulizer was attached to its head, to simulate coughing and release actual coronavirus particles. The other mannequin was used to mimick natural breathing, having a collection chamber which can collect the virus, if it manages to pass through the mask, and into the airway.

A cotton mask blocked 40% of the coronavirus particles, when compared to no mask. An N95 mask, which is usually…

60-second breath test to detect COVID-19 | NUS Research News

“Our breath test is easy to administer, and it does not require specially-trained staff or laboratory processing. Results are generated in real-time, making it an attractive solution for mass screening, especially in areas with high human traffic. We believe our breath analysis platform shows promise in changing the tides of this pandemic,” Source: 60-second breath test to detect COVID-19 | NUS Research News

Key Takeaways from this Report

• In the past two weeks, clusters from social gatherings (such as parties, family gatherings, weddings, funerals) have increased. This trend is consistent with patterns seen in other parts of the country like the northeast, as referenced by Dr. Deborah Birx of the White House Coronavirus Task Force earlier in October.

• The number of cases associated with clusters in religious gatherings increased during September.

• The number of cases associated with meat and poultry processing clusters plants has decreased since early May.

• Clusters in college and university settings peaked in late August.

State raises questions about COVID-19 death data. Some question timing of announcement (politics over health – formula for disaster)

“What this comes down to is this is COVID-19 deniers. And I hate to say it, but this is a complete attempt to downplay this pandemic that has destroyed lives across the country and world,” Eskamani told The News Service of Florida at the time. “There are so many steps we can take to not cause controversy over this pandemic and just get our job done. It’s very frustrating to see these used-up attacks to downplay the pandemic.” Source: State raises questions about COVID-19 death data. Some question timing of announcement

CDC notes ‘distressing trend’ of rising COVID cases | CIDRAP

Increases seen across the country

The United States reported 60,315 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, with 933 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 dashboard. The country now has at least 8,312,109 confirmed infections, and 221,694 deaths.

As Butler noted, unlike the previous surges in the spring and the summer, which were driven by hot spots in the Northeast and the South, the “third wave” of infections are occurring in nearly every region of the country. The COVID Exit Strategy website lists 32 states as having uncontrolled spread, and 11 as trending poorly.

The Midwest continues to be one of the hardest-hit areas. In Wisconsin, which yesterday reported 4,591 new COVID-19 cases after working through a backlog of data caused by a weekend outage, Gov. Tony Evers pleaded with residents to start changing their behavior.

“If we continue to make excuses for not doing this, we will have more deaths, we will have more people with COVID-19, and, frankly, we will have a lot less economic activity in the state of Wisconsin,” Evers said at a press conference, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “This is a critical time, folks.”
