U.S. Says Virus Can’t be Controlled. China Aims to Prove It Wrong. – The New York Times
Unlike the Trump administration, which has said it is prioritizing opening the economy while essentially giving up on controlling the pandemic, China moved aggressively to stop the virus. The result: China’s economy is growing and life there is returning to a semblance of normal, while the United States is struggling with a third wave of infections and the prospect of new restrictions. Economic growth in China has surged, hitting 4.9 percent in the latest quarter, and consumer spending has slowly started to recover. Residents are once again flocking into malls, bars, concert halls and hair salons, while schools, subways and offices are crowded. China has effectively sealed off its borders from the outside world and doubled down on efforts to eradicate the virus. When a crop of cases emerge, the government swiftly shuts down vast areas and quickly tests millions of people, to help keep local transmissions near zero.

If I Could…..
If I could, I would be a nightingale
Sitting on the boughs and singing my tales
And everyone loving my voice
Even though the fables being of my choice
I would freely soar high without any end
And thus setting up my own new trend.
If I could, I would time travel
Rectifying my past mistakes beyond my level
Reliving twice the most happy moments
Not caring much then, I now lament
Doing what I didn’t at that time
And setting up subtly my new paradigm.
If I could, I would be a phoenix
Even if I fall after a jinx
I would again rise and arise
Much stronger than my previous size
Not just I will sit back and regret
And falsely assume that I can never move ahead playing my already run out cassette
If I could, I would become invisible
And thus becoming highly invincible
I…

perhaps wolves domesticated humans rather than the other way around, meaning that it was the wolves who changed the nature of our relationship first. In this scenario wolf populations living near humans may have learned to poach at the edges of settlements, perhaps eating the bones or other refuse that humans discarded. The more cute and friendly wolves would have had more success at this strategy, while the more aggressive wolves would have been killed or driven off. This could have led to a subpopulation of friendly wolves mostly living off of human refuse. Selective pressures could have then quickly domesticated these proto-dog wolves, who were only later taken as companions by humans. Human selection would then have taken them the rest of the way to modern dogs. Source: Evolution of Dogs | NeuroLogica Blog
