Vermont Sets Yet Another Record With 178 New COVID-19 Cases | Vermont Public Radio

Vermont officials reported 178 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, a single-day record since the start of the pandemic. Of the new cases, 64 are in Chittenden County. Washington County saw 29 new infections, and four other Vermont counties had case increases in the teens. One more Vermonter has died, bringing the statewide death toll to 75. The Health Department changed its reporting standards this week, and is now including both positive and “presumptive positive” cases in its daily count. A total of 29 people are currently hospitalized with the disease, including three people who are in the ICU. L.A. County sets new single-day coronavirus case record – Los Angeles Times

County health officials reported 7,854 new coronavirus cases, the second time in three days the daily total has surpassed 7,500.

“I can’t emphasize this enough: Everyone must take personal steps to protect themselves from getting and spreading this virus to others,” L.A. County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said during a briefing. “Actions need to be taken now and on a daily basis.”

Along with the staggering case count — which boosted the county’s infection total above 420,000 — hospitalizations also continue to hit new highs.

FTC warns of new Apple support call scam | AppleInsider

In the case of Apple, call recipients are informed of supposedly suspicious iCloud account activity or an outright breach. Fake calls from Amazon are similarly worded, claiming a user’s account shows suspicious purchase activity, a lost package, or problems with a recent order, the FTC says.

Megachurch pastor dies of COVID-19 after church reopens – Los Angeles Times

An associate pastor for a megachurch in San Bernardino County died of COVID-19 about a month after the facility reopened indoor services.

Bob Bryant of the Water of Life Community Church in Fontana tested positive for the coronavirus in November and soon developed an aggressive pneumonia in both of his lungs, according to a post on the church’s Facebook site. He then suffered a heart attack. He ultimately was placed on a ventilator and died Monday. He was 58. RIP
