Karl-Anthony Towns Says 7 Family Members Dead From COVID-19

Minnesota Timberwolves’ basketball player Karl-Anthony Towns, who lost his mother earlier this year due to complications from the coronavirus, revealed this weekend that an additional six members of his family have died from COVID-19. “Last night I got a call that I lost my uncle. I feel like I’ve been hardened a little bit by life and humbled,” Towns said to members of the media on Friday, according to a report from ESPN.  “I’ve seen a lot of coffins in the last seven-eight months. I have a lot of people who have, in my family and my mom’s family, gotten COVID,” he added. “I’m the one looking for answers still, trying to find how to keep them healthy. It’s just a lot of responsibility on me to keep my family well-informed and to make all the moves necessary to keep them alive.” In March, the athlete shared an emotional video revealing that his mother Jacqueline Cruz-Towns had been put in a medically-induced coma after her health began to rapidly deteriorate due to COVID-19. She later died on April 13 at the age of 58. Towns’ father, Karl Sr. also had the disease but recovered.

Israeli police cleared in shooting of maimed Palestinian boy – The Washington Post

Israeli authorities have cleared police of any wrongdoing in the case of a 9-year-old boy who lost an eye after apparently being shot in the face by an Israeli officer earlier this year.

Malik Eissa was struck by what appeared to be a sponge-tipped munition last February and lost vision in his left eye, and his family says he hasn’t returned to school because of recurring medical treatments and the embarrassment of being disfigured and reliant on a prosthetic eye.

Facing Facts On COVID-19 In Jamaica

Jamaica Woman Tongue

Many of us are living in a fool’s paradise. We seem to assume that the COVID-19 pandemic is not really a threat to us. We do not appear to know that most of the population has not been tested for the virus. And many people who are infected do not show any symptoms. We act as though the number of confirmed cases is an accurate count of the total figure. We also seem to think that the number of people who have died from the virus is really low. So we are enjoying delusional security: “Where ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise”.

THOMAS GRAY, NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY, LONDON

That doubtful consolation now has the ring of proverbial authority. It actually comes from “An Ode On a Distant Prospect Of Eton College” by Thomas Gray, an 18th century English poet. Reflecting on both his schooldays and life in the…

Pizza!

In Saner Thought

During this pandemic the consumption of pizza has gone up…..

I am a traditionalist I like my pizza pretty straight forward….toppings…..the works sans anchovy. But I do not understand the necessity for a hot wings pizza or a chicken taco pizza….but all that aside….does anyone know the origins of the fabulous pizza?

Pizza is the world’s favourite fast food. We eat it everywhere – at home, in restaurants, on street corners. Some three billion pizzas are sold each year in the United States alone, an average of 46 slices per person. But the story of how the humble pizza came to enjoy such global dominance reveals much about the history of migration, economics and technological change.

People have been eating pizza, in one form or another, for centuries. As far back as antiquity, pieces of flatbread, topped with savouries, served as a simple and tasty meal for those who could…

Explained: Is ‘natural immunity’ from COVID better than a vaccine? | Explained News,The Indian Express

I’m young, healthy and at low risk of COVID. Why not take my chances with that rather than get a rushed vaccine?

The experts were unanimous in their answer: COVID-19 is by far the more dangerous option.

“It’s clear that one is less problematic for the body to recover from them than the other – there’s more risk with natural infection,” said Marion Pepper, an immunologist at the University of Washington in Seattle.
