Poland’s abortion rights protesters prepare for revolution | openDemocracy

“On the one hand, we’re planning a revolution. On the other, we’re already making plans on what the world should look like once we’re able to manage things ourselves”, said Suchanow.

“We’re going for freedom. We’re going for everything”, she continued. “We demand PiS [the Law and Justice party] resign, but once that happens, we’ll be left with a political scene that doesn’t inspire hope. So, we, the citizens, have to take matters into our own hands,” said Suchanow.  Source: Poland’s abortion rights protesters prepare for revolution | openDemocracy

Israel’s vaccine rollout excludes Palestinians | The Electronic Intifada

While Israel has secured 8 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine, for which its two million-strong Palestinian citizens are eligible, no provision has been made for the roughly 5 million Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza who live under its military occupation.

Israel’s public security minister Amir Ohana, meanwhile, has directed the health ministry not to include so-called security prisoners – all of whom are Palestinian – to be included in the second priority group of inoculations.

This contradicts health ministry directives, which have deemed prisoners generally as at high risk of exposure. Security prisoners’ guards will still be vaccinated as part of the second phase of Israel’s rollout.

As the occupying power, Israel has a responsibility under international law, including article 56 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, to ensure “public health and hygiene in the occupied territory.”

Article 56 makes “particular reference to the adoption and application of the prophylactic and preventive measures necessary to combat the spread of contagious diseases and epidemics.”

Israel is also reneging on its signed agreements and promises, specifically Article 17 of its 1995 interim agreement with the Palestine Liberation Organization.

That too calls explicitly for Israel to help the Palestinian Authority combat “epidemics and contagious diseases … [and] … develop methods for exchange of medical files and documents.”

Fleeing lockdown, Americans are flock to Mexico City – where the coronavirus is surging

“Me first” and lack of self-discipline will kill Americans and Mexicans alike – shocking failure and lack of community ethics.

Hospitals are at capacity and coronavirus cases are surging, but many foreigners, especially Americans, are heading to the Mexican capital — some intending to stay awhile.

Hundreds of thousands more US Covid deaths possible amid vaccine chaos | Coronavirus | The Guardian

“Basically, the federal government is botching the vaccine rollout,” said Ashish Jha, dean of Brown University’s school of public health.

“They thought their job ends when the vaccine arrives in the states, and there’s really no well-delineated plan.”

He added: “What America is suffering through is the consequence of incompetence in federal leadership – the entire pandemic has been marred by a group of people, not just Donald Trump – who don’t understand how things work and can’t get something to work effectively.”

India approves Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid vaccine | India | The Guardian (mass trial runs will pave the way for successful vaccine campaign – something US did not do and US is paying for with poor roll out)

Country with second-highest number of infections has run vaccine drills to prepare for immunization campaign

The health minister, Harsh Vardhan, said the exercise would help build expertise “so that the upcoming vaccination drive may proceed without any glitch”. He has also called for a campaign to counter “misleading rumours” that may put people off getting the vaccine.

Javadekar said at least three more vaccines were waiting to be approved – the local company Bharat Biotch’s Covaxin, Zydus Cadila’s ZyCoV-D and Russia’s Sputnik-V.

He got COVID after employer tested positive but kept it secret – Los Angeles Times

“I confronted Ted and asked why he didn’t tell people instead of putting us through all of this stuff,” said Cy. “And he said, ‘Because I thought I could get away with it.’ Which is probably typical of a lot of people in L.A., and it’s why we still have this problem.”

But what did Ted mean by saying he thought he could get away with it? Did he mean that if he passed on the virus, nobody would know it came from him? Or that if he had no symptoms, or mild symptoms, he probably wasn’t very contagious?

Cy said he believes Ted thought that if he wore a mask and kept his distance, nobody else would get the virus from him.
