Biden admin will allow families separated under Trump to remain in US | TheHill

The Biden administration will allow families separated at the southern border by the Trump administration to reunite and remain in the U.S., the White House announced Monday.

“We are hoping to reunite the families, either here or in their country of origin. We hope to be in a position to give them the election. And if, in fact they seek to reunite here in the United States, we will explore lawful pathways for them to remain in the United States, and to address the family needs,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said at a press briefing.

RIP – Covid-19: Two die after 11 catch virus on Christmas Day – BBC News

Kashmir and Paramjeet A mother and her daughter died when 11 members of the same family caught Covid-19 after meeting on Christmas Day. Kashmir Bains, 64, and Paramjeet, 43, of Wolverhampton, fell seriously ill after testing positive for the virus. The daughter died on 5 January, the day after she was taken to hospital, and her mother died four weeks later. “It’s been devastating for us as a family,” said Indy Bains, their son and brother. Mr Bains said the family considered not meeting at Christmas but decided to because his sister, who has learning disabilities, had been suffering in isolation with her mental health. They gathered on Christmas Day, adhered to the government’s three household rule and “played safe”, only meeting for a few hours. Mr Bains and his family, and his younger sister and her family, met up with his mother, father and older sister. Days after Christmas, all 11 tested positive for coronavirus.

COVID-19 Vaccine Access for People with Disabilities | KFF- Nonelderly people with disabilities

Nonelderly people with disabilities and the direct care workers who provide their LTSS have similar risk factors for serious illness or death from COVID-19 compared to their counterparts in nursing homes, due to the close contact required to provide assistance with daily personal care tasks, such as eating, dressing, and bathing; the congregate nature of many of these settings; and the highly transmissible nature of the coronavirus. Seniors in nursing homes are explicitly included in the top priority group in all states’ COVID-19 vaccine distribution plans, but nonelderly people with disabilities who use LTSS may be not prioritized. This issue brief presents current state-level data about COVID-19 cases and deaths in settings that primarily serve nonelderly people with disabilities and summarizes available research on this population’s elevated risk of severe illness and death; explains how nonelderly people with disabilities and their LTSS providers are reflected in state vaccine prioritization plans; and discusses key issues related to vaccine access for these populations.

Myanmar’s military coup: Pro-democracy protests continue depsite bloody crackdown

Myanmar is reeling after its bloodiest day yet in the wake of the latest military coup. But what will this mean going forward for the people who still take to the streets to call for the reinstatement of civilian rule? At least 18 killed in the bloodiest day yet. A day later the people are still protesting. The people are still resisting inspite of the fact the army is willing to fire live bullets at them in the capital city of Yangon.

Meanwhile Aung San Suu Kyu, the de facto president, arrested by the military on February 1st, for alleged rigging of the election in November that she won by a landslide, appeared in court again via video link. She still has not been seen publicly since her arrrest.

California-based plumbers bring aid to San Antonio

One of these master plumbers is a San Diego coffee shop owner, David Chaddick. He organized a GoFundMe to purchase plumbing supplies that are already out of stock at most hardware stores in the area.

Chaddick, along with a team of experts, loaded their U-Haul and made their way down I-10, straight to San Antonio, to assist in the winter storm relief efforts on the West Side.

Families have utilized Chaddick and his crew for much-needed home repairs over the weekend. His team completely rebuilt a wheelchair ramp for West Side resident Yolanda Villareal and her husband, which is just one example of the work the team has taken on so far.

Chaddick and others are slated to return to the West Coast this week, but will leave knowing they made a difference for many San Antonians.

What are the 3 types of dictatorships?

JUSTICE

What are the 3 types of dictatorships?

Between the two world wars, three types of dictatorships have been described: constitutional, counterrevolutionary and fascist. Since World War II, a broader range of dictatorships has been recognized, including Third World dictatorships, theocratic or religious dictatorships and dynastic or family-based dictatorships.

Characteristics. Authoritarianism is characterized by highly concentrated and centralized government power maintained by political repression and the exclusion of potential challengers. It uses political parties and mass organizations to mobilize people around the goals of the regime.

Dictatorships are often characterised by some of the following: suspension of elections and civil liberties; proclamation of a state of emergency; rule by decree; repression of political opponents; not abiding by the rule of law procedures, and cult of personality.

…what profits a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul…

Triangle Writes...

you believed a man could not have a descent life
and can’t pull himself out of his poverty
being poor and one of the millions of the needy
is to live a life that’s simple and happy

you spoke he’s a weak and fragile person
no muscles and can’t bend bars of iron
but he can secure a brighter future
he’s honest and upright with mind so mature

you dared and derided his being
considered him as meek and mean
but what profits a man if he gains the whole world

but loses his own soul
the right relationship with Christ

is all that he should own …
