What Love Feels Like – Mariana dynasty

A metal.
Hot like lava from the deep depths,
Burning through a heart with no mercy.
At times cold as the freeze of water.
The coldness that calms all anger.
Love exposes, yet it changes people.

A morning.
Fresh with a whispering breeze.
Sometimes dull, sometimes bright.
At times, like the rays of the sun through the curtains
Other times as the warm blanket you never want to take away.
Love gives hope, it’s what we hold on to.

Greta Thunberg On How We Can Tackle The Climate Crisis | British Vogue

we can keep using creative carbon accounting and cheat in order to pretend that these targets are in line with what is needed. But we must not forget that while we can fool others and even ourselves, we cannot fool nature and physics. The emissions are still there, whether we choose to count them or not.

Still, as it is now, the people in power get away with it since the gap of awareness is so immense. And this is the heart of the problem. If you call these pledges and commitments “bold” or “ambitious”, then you clearly haven’t fully understood the emergency we are in.

I’ve met with many world leaders and even they admit that their targets are not in line with their commitments. And that’s natural. They are only doing what they consider to be politically possible. Their job is to fulfil the wishes of voters, and if voters are not demanding real climate action, then of course no real changes will happen. And thankfully, this is how democracy works. Public opinion is what runs the free world. If we want change then we must spread awareness and make the seemingly impossible become possible.

We understand that the world is complex, that many are trying their best and that what is needed isn’t easy. And, of course, these very insufficient targets are better than nothing. But we cannot be satisfied with something just because it’s better than nothing. We have to go further than that. We must believe that we can do this, because we can. When we humans come together and decide to fulfil something, we can achieve almost anything.

Culpability

Amen

We give our tacit approval to the things that we believe furthers our cause but we refuse to accept our culpability. For example: The person that fells the tree and those that buy the wood are equally responsible for the deforestation of the forest. We are all responsible for our culpability and we ought to be held accountable. We are here now but like the flame of a candle we will all be extinguished.

New ‘biodegradable’ plastics actually degrade – UPI.com

When exposed to heat and water, the enzymes free themselves from the surrounding polymer chains and begin munching away on PLA molecules. The enzymes turn the PLA into lactic acid, which is consumed by various microbes in the soil.

Other plastic degradation processes yield tiny plastic particles called microplastics. In recent years, surveys have found microplastic pollution in the organs of humans and animals, as well in some of the planet’s most remote ecosystems.

The new composting method turns 98 percent of the PLA into simple molecules.

Senate Confirms Vanita Gupta for Top Justice Dept. Role – The New York Times

Ms. Gupta proved that the drug charges had been fabricated by a narcotics agent named Tom Coleman, who was found guilty of perjury. In 2003, Rick Perry, then the governor of Texas, pardoned 35 people as a result of that case.

As a staff lawyer at the American Civil Liberties Union, Ms. Gupta built bridges with police departments and human rights groups as part of her efforts to overhaul the criminal justice system.

Conservative stalwarts involved in criminal justice reform, like Koch Industries and Grover Norquist, joined progressive groups in supporting Ms. Gupta’s confirmation. So did more than a dozen law enforcement organizations, including the National Sheriffs’ Association, the Major Cities Chiefs Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
