Secrets of a tree whisperer: ‘They get along, they listen – they’re attuned’ | Trees and forests | The Guardian

One of Simard’s most thrilling beliefs is that trees can recognise us. “Trees perceive many things. They know when they’re infected and have an instantaneous biochemical response. When we manipulate trees, they respond.” Would she go as far as to suggest a tree can feel pain or grief? “I don’t know. Trees don’t have a brain, but the network in the soil is a neural network and the chemicals that move through it are the same as our neural transmitters.” She is currently collaborating on research to see whether trees can distinguish us as humans.

The field was singing the coldest wind through our souls. Many kids were burning with fever. Some of us fell and slept in the middle of that area forever. We were holding our coughs, trying not to make any noise while passing through this open meadow when one of the older adults couldn’t take it and started to cough. Breathing heavy, he fell to the ground. All of us started running. In a second…

Saturday Surprise — For The Birds!

Filosofa's Word

Well, folks, it’s Saturday and time to give our brains a brief respite, to relax and find something enjoyable to focus on.  In that vein, I have discovered a wildlife photographer, Tim Flach, who has done some truly amazing work.  He has photographed endangered species, does commissions to photograph family pets, but the collection I want to share with you today is … birds!  Not just any ol’ birds, mind you, but some very unique birds that Flach has captured to perfection.

For more about Tim and his other works, including his two books, Endangered and More Than Human, visit his website

Meanwhile … take a look at these gorgeous birds!

The Himalayan Monal is the national bird of Nepal.
Blue Tits are a common sight at bird tables in the U.K. Researchers found that the British put double the food in bird feeders than our European neighbours, which…

PT Boats – August 1945

Pacific Paratrooper

PT boat operating at Guadalcanal

In mid August, 30 squadrons of PT’s were in commission.  Nineteen were in the 7th Fleet.

Admiral Kinkaid could not foresee a need for patrol boats around Japan and Korea, so The 7th Fleet boats became the Motor Torpedo Boat Squadrons Philippine Sea Frontier.  The shooting was over but there were still jobs where they could be useful.

25-26 August – at Morotai, 16 PT’s under Lt.Comdr. T.R. Stansbury and Gen. Johnson got underway for a rendezvous with the commanders of the Japanese forces on Halmahera.  The Japanese commanding general was not there. That was unacceptable.

The following day, BGen. Warren McNaught went with 6 PT boats and this time Lt.Gen. Ishii and Capt. Fujita, IJN commander were waiting.  The boats carried them to the 93rd Div. headquarters on Morotai.  It was here that they surrendered 37,000…

Transcript: The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, 4/22/21 (with TOLOKONNIKOVA of Pussy Riot)

O`DONNELL: Nadya, I`ve discussed this with you on this program. I`ve discussed it with you privately. Your bravery, Alexei Navalny`s bravery is just stunning to watch. It`s not something that I can comprehend. It`s not something that I can imagine feeling myself and acting on. Where does it come from? What in the Russian character or in Russian life takes you to this point? TOLOKONNIKOVA: I bet you would do the same in our place. We just want to be on the right side of history and we are driven by ethics. And we all, at the bottom of our hearts, we all want to be good human beings. So it`s just — we want to see better Russia. We see amazing talented people who are not able to fulfill their full potential. A lot of them are leaving. And there is whole generation of young Russians and a generation of my kid and a little bit older who are growing up seeing just Putin. And most of them, they don`t like him because they see that — they don`t have — they don`t have a lot of chances in their life just because of one person who holds the power for 21 years.

VEM comigo!

My way of writing, of helping, is to bring information …

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

” Eu queria escrever.
