Flash mobs in Myanmar’s biggest city avoid deadly response – The Washington Post

A flash mob of mostly young people in Myanmar’s biggest city staged a brief protest march Thursday against military rule, the latest in a series of actions aimed at reducing the chances of a deadly response by the authorities.

In the five-minute protest in Yangon, about 70 marchers chanted slogans in support of the civil disobedience movement that opposes February’s army coup that ousted the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. They then scattered into the downtown crowds.

Protests also took place in other cities and towns including Mandalay, the country’s second biggest city, where Buddhist monks marched, and Dawei in the southeast, where the demonstrators included engineers, teachers, university students and members of LGBT groups.

A Long Walk To Freedom – Scribbled Fancies

Maybe people go for walks because they have been recommended by doctors and health experts but I love going to walks because my lungs inhale out all the negative vibes and get filled in with positive energy hence charging me up for the day. I just fail to understand how some people can be sleepyheads and miss this glorious scene that nature offers in the wee hours of the morning. Source: A Long Walk To Freedom – Scribbled Fancies

Ordnance – L-4 Grasshopper in the Pacific

Pacific Paratrooper

The “L’series liaison aircraft in US army service were often known as “grasshoppers.” These aircraft served with artillery and outfits spotting targets and giving commanders real time information on enemy positions. They also served in Liaison Squadrons, such as the 25th Liaison Squadron which earned fame in the Pacific Theater with their “Guinea Short Lines” aircraft.

L-4 Grasshopper, Piper Cub

Primarily to serve at elimination training bases in World War II the Navy acquired 230 Piper NE-1s , basically similar to the Army L-4s with Continental 0-170 engines. Twenty NE-2s were similar.

deHavilland WWI

As war spread around the world at the beginning of the 1940s, the U.S. military, dominated by old soldiers who expected to fight the next war exactly as they fought the last one, had to be convinced that the requirements for certain weapons needed to be redefined. An example was the Army’s observation airplanes, latter-day versions…

We naa ease up! On violence against women and children.

As a 40 year plus journalist, I can assure you this is not just an issue in Jamaica. In all the west, many issues are gang reported for 9-14 days and then they fade from view in the news. If people really want to press the issue home so government acts – they need to schedule a headline grabbing event every 9-14 days. In addition, schedule an event on Sunday late afternoon to be sure you get coverage on Monday morning or in 5th weeks of some months – as nothing is scheduled in those weeks.

Petchary's Blog

There is something we call a “nine day wonder” in Jamaica. It may be a common phenomenon elsewhere, too. A controversial and pressing matter arises (often a manifestation of a frequently recurring issue that has never been properly addressed – such as this one) and there is a furore on social media, with traditional media jumping on the bandwagon. After approximately nine days (or sometimes sooner) it has faded. The sense of urgency has abated, the fever has receded. We can go on with life as usual. In this case, all the right heartfelt statements were made by Government representatives, and subsequently there was a pause – which is becoming an extended pause.

This press release is scattered with the word “urgent.” The signatories are determined to keep this issue on the front burner. And this issue is not to be ignored or put on a shelf.

No nine day…

YouTube begins deleting hyperlinks to Navalny’s ‘SmartVote’ initiative and suspending channels that promote the project — Meduza (Me: YouTube caving to Russian censorship and false imprisonment of Navalny! if this continues… Good bye YouTube.)

On Thursday, the media outlet Sota Vision reported that YouTube removed its SmartVote hyperlink from a video streamed in August 2019 during opposition protests in Moscow. According to the notification received from YouTube’s administrators, the hyperlink violated the video-hosting service’s community rules on “spam, deceptive practices, and scam policies.” If Sota Vision commits another such infraction, it will lose the ability to upload videos and stream content for a week.

Sota Vision says YouTube acted in response to a complaint filed by Roskomnadzor (RKN), Russia’s federal censor.
