Internal riots more concerning than rockets, says Ashdod hospital’s head – The Jerusalem Post

Riots that are pitting Jews and Arabs against each other in Israeli cities are even more concerning than rockets from Gaza, Dr. Erez Barenboim, general-director of the Samson Assuta Ashdod Hospital, has said. Some Arab workers at the hospitals had to be escorted out of their villages by the police and were offered housing in the city until the situation calms down, he added.
“I am more concerned about the riots in the mixed towns than from the missiles coming from Gaza,” Barenboim told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday. “Internal stability is crucial for the development and the security of Israel.”
“As a country, as a people, we can defend ourselves from rockets, but we need to be united,” he added.

A Dry Piece of Paradise

Love the desert – thanks.

A hellish shriek assaulted the cold 3 am darkness.

The scream was instantly recognizable. Anything but terrified, after a confused scramble I reinserted the pin into a personal security device hung from my backpack. Wrapped in a silly waffle weave blanket, tossing restless in the cold, the pin lanyard hung up then pulled free. Several minutes had passed with that sound flowing out over the canyon, calling all carnivores to breakfast.

I had drifted off with the wind shaking my tent like a drunken prankster and now all was totally and absolutely quiet. In spite of the cold, the inadequate blanket and the imaginary creatures looking for the source of that scream, the next two hours sped by in a fitful doze.

30 Second Evictions

A Lawyer's Prayers

Legal gavel, Author Blogtrepreneur (CC BY-SA 2.0 Generic)

Since the coronavirus pandemic, health concerns have moved eviction hearings online.  At least 43 states now allow virtual evictions; 7 states mandate that eviction proceedings take place online.

Unfortunately, online evictions often deprive tenants of their rights [1].

CDC policy bans residential evictions for non-payment of rent through June 2021.  Many landlords have though continued to file evictions.

The CDC eviction moratorium can only be raised as a defense at an eviction hearing.  The CDC eviction moratorium (enacted under the Public Health Service Act of 1944) has, itself, been struck down at least four different times [2].  And CDC policy does not apply when a lease has expired (a fact unscrupulous landlords exploit).

During virtual evictions on video platforms like Zoom, internet connection issues are common; multiple tenants may appear on screen at the same time; and participants are often muted.

A Few Coronavirus Thoughts …

Filosofa's Word

With some 156.2 million people in the U.S. partly or fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, there is much to be pleased about.  That is, after all, nearly half the population of the country.  But wait … it’s not quite time for cheering and bow-taking just yet, for there are still the other half that are not yet vaccinated.  A large number say it infringes on their “rights” and they do not plan on being vaccinated.  Others are still convinced by the conspiracy theories that the pandemic is a hoax, or that the vaccine is the government’s way of implanting a microchip in their body, though for what purpose is anybody’s guess.

The bottom line is that while at one point last month, 100,000 were being vaccinated every day, the number has slowed down significantly, and many states are requesting that the government send them less than originally requested.  I have…

Crkva Svetog Georgija, Mažići, Srbija – Church of St. George, Mažići, Serbia

Google translation of introduction: Church of St. George, Mažići, Serbia – Mažići, Sveti Georgije u Dabru or Orahovica, as all historical documents call this important medieval monastery center in the lower course of the river Lim, is mentioned in the 13th century in a transcript of the famous Studenički tipik.

Myrela

Gold mining and the indiscriminate use of mercury to ferret out gold are turning swaths of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems into a nightmarish moonscape!

PLEASE DO NOT BUY OR USE GOLD!

As much as 75% of the gold extracted each year is used for jewelry, watches and other vain and futile status symbols sold byCartierand other corporations in the luxury industry as well as discount retailers worldwide.

Tens of thousands of rainforest trees must be uprooted, hundreds of tons of soil mined and mixed with dozens of tons of toxic environmental pollutants…

Video: Slowing deforestation is the key to preventing the next pandemic – but what does that cost? — Palm Oil Detectives

Barbara Crane Navarro

Les Kaufman, Boston University In a recent journal article, a team of biologists, medical scientists, environmental scientists and conservationists proposed a number of measures to reduce the likelihood of future pandemics, many of which originate with wild animals such as bats. They argue that spending billions of dollars per year – a fraction of the[…]
