Life

normabobb

We tend to treat life as if it’s a marketplace. Bartering of our body, our money, and our character we believe is fair game if we can get the love and attention from some else in return. There is no need for bartering, we are all we will ever need. Love is who we are and we are never alone, the energy force is everywhere present, it is within us and it surrounds us.

Belarus ‘hijacking’ is test for international community | Belarus | The Guardian

Belarus’s president, Alexander Lukashenko, has unleashed a brutal campaign against his opponents. More than 35,000 people have been arrested, thousands have been tortured or abused, and 400 political prisoners are currently behind bars. Earlier this week a 50-year-old opposition activist, Vitold Ashurok, died in a penal colony. The official cause of death was “heart attack”. His widow believes he was murdered.

It is against this dark and repressive backdrop that the extraordinary events of Sunday took place. According to state media, Lukashenko personally authorised the forced downing of a Ryanair plane as it flew over Belarusian airspace between Greece and Lithuania – a real-time hijacking. He even dispatched a MIG-29 fighter jet to ensure the pilot complied after being informed of a fake bomb threat.

China Will Likely Ban All Bitcoin Mining Soon – Slashdot

Bitcoin took investors on another rollercoaster ride over the weekend after a top regulator in China announced a crackdown on mining, a new tack in the country’s ongoing fight against the cryptocurrency. The government will “crack down on bitcoin mining and trading behavior and resolutely prevent the transfer of individual risks to the society,” said the statement, which was issued by the Financial Stability and Development Committee of the State Council, the country’s cabinet equivalent. The committee is chaired by Vice Premier Liu He, who acts as President Xi Jinping’s top representative on economic and financial matters.

“The wording of the statement did not leave much leeway for cryptocurrency mining,” Li Yi, chief research fellow at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, told the South China Morning Post. “When all mining activities are banned in China, it will be a turning point for the fate of bitcoin, as a large chunk of its processing power is taken out of the picture.” The Chinese government isn’t just worried about financial stability, either. A commentary piece in Xinhua News, the Communist Party’s official media outlet, elaborated on the government’s stance, voicing concerns about bitcoin’s role in money laundering, drug trafficking, and smuggling. It also mentioned bitcoin’s profligate energy use. Last week, China warned financial institutions not to participate in crypto-transactions or related services. Source: China Will Likely Ban All Bitcoin Mining Soon – Slashdot

Chef Beverly Kim Fights Racism Through Food | Bar & Restaurant – By Erin Flynn Jay

A Shared Voice, Resources to Fight Hate

Kim said she believes AAPI owners can equip themselves with bystander training at restaurants, and they can proactively prepare for harassment situations that may happen in public spaces, such as restaurants.

“As an Asian American owner, I’ve been preparing myself by actively making sure my staff is taking extra careful in closing – going out with a buddy so they don’t leave alone,” said Kim. “I’ve been connecting with my restaurant community, neighbors, alderman, and this group Asian Americans Advancing Justice to be a support system of ideas and support should something come up.”

Kim has also been connecting the community through #DoughSomething, so people can empathize and use their shared voice and resources to fight hate.

In light of the current climate, AAPI restaurants have an opportunity to connect in solidarity and advocacy of stopping Asian Hate and be proud to be Asian Americans, according to Kim. “Our cuisines are varied and nuanced, just like us. We deserve to be celebrated and respected with our contributions to cuisine in America,” Kim said.

Police In Delhi Have Descended On Twitter’s Headquarters In The Country (Me: Modi becoming more like dictator… step by step)

For months, Twitter has locked horns with the Indian government. In February, the company refused to censor tweets belonging to journalists, activists, and politicians in the country despite being ordered by India’s government to do so, and despite threats from the IT ministry to jail Twitter officials for not towing the government’s line.

At the end of February, India’s government unveiled new regulations to assume greater power over social media companies. On Friday, it issued an order asking platforms to take down content that referred to an “Indian variant” of the coronavirus, according to Reuters.

Commerce Department, ITMS scoured Americans’ social media, did broad keyword searches on employee emails, documents and interviews show. – The Washington Post

Investigators lodged complaints with supervisors, and the department’s internal watchdog launched multiple inquiries, documents show. In an internal memo laying out his concerns about the unit, Costello described an inspector general’s investigation that he said had found it had no legal authority to conduct criminal investigations.

But the unit has managed to keep a low public profile until now, while pursuing investigations into “counterintelligence, transnational crime and counterterrorism,” as it described its activities in a 2018 budget document submitted to Congress.

Incoming Commerce leaders from the Biden administration ordered ITMS to pause all criminal investigations on March 10, and on May 13 ordered the suspension of all activities after preliminary results of an ongoing review, according to a statement issued by department spokeswoman Brittany Caplin.
