Laurisilva Madere, Portugal – Laurisilva of Madeira, Portugal

Myrela

Šume lovora opstale su u oblastima pošteđenim glacijacije, uključujući arhipelage Zelenortskih, Kanarskih i Azorskih ostrva i Funšala (ostrva Madera, Porto Santo, Dezertas i Salvažens).

Thoughtful Thursdays, Stayed on Freedom with the Call of Freedom, and Alliances

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Mutual problems, mutual aid.

So, how do we each help our society to become more fully inclusive for all of us, and to respond to the human need for aid, to all of us?

I believe that attention to shared histories of cooperation may provide part of an answer.  I started a note about that, a few years ago, in my book Stayed on Freedom’s Call:

“…burdens while being subject to rather different cultural and ethnic constraints, it
seems only natural that alliances would form between the two communities to
facilitate resistance to their mutual oppression. Such alliances would inspire
communities to cooperate to make positive changes for the benefit of all
citizens. And cooperate they did, both in private and in public….

So, it turns out that I might have needed to explain a bit more about that shared oppression mentioned on this page.  Some…

The Spiritual Old Man|پیرمردروحانی

A Voice from Iran

“192nd story”

A very neat old man with long white beard and hair, walked into a small jewelry store. The owner was alone and welcomed the old man.

The only thing that the old man said, was: “I am your good angel.”

Then he sat on a chair in the store.

The owner laughed hard and said: “You do look spiritual, but I never thought you would be an angel.”

The store door got open and a decent couple walked in. They asked for a neckless that was hanging on the shop’s window.

While the owner was getting that neckless, he noticed that the lady sat on the lap of the old man.

The owner said: “Why are you sitting on that old man’s lap?”

The lady said: “What are you talking about? Are you alright? What old man?”

The couple bought the neckless and walked out of the store.

It’s okay to take a break

Saania's diary - reflections, learnings, sparkles

Quite often, we get deeply embroiled in our hectic lifestyles with deadlines to meet and a continual pressure on our shoulders to “be productive”. But as I have realised, it is so important that we give ourselves a break when we need one. Giving our bodies, minds, and hearts a chance to relax and recharge is as vital as hitting our most important deadlines.

A lot of us feel guilty when we aren’t productive. As a high-school student, every time I look at my laptop, I see ten assignments I need to complete, deadlines I need to meet, essays I need to write, and tasks I need to get on with. I feel constantly overwhelmed and it seems like there isn’t any end to it. I even feel like I’m going and going, almost drowning. There are times when I feel like I’m not able to spend time with my…

The Circular Economy and Sustainability

FunWritings

The circular economy is more self sufficient and more sustainable

There are many things we need to think about when we want to keep on having a life that is comfortable

It is time for us to help our children to learn about new ways to live

So that Mother Earth can have the ability to find enough to give

When will we accept that we are producing too much waste these days

And it is possible for us to use waste in much better ways

We have not cared about our soil for far too long

And the food that is being produced won’t keep us strong

Photo by Anna Shvets on Pexels.com

Waste management should be done in a new way so that the soil can be replenished

With so many people thinking only about making money, what is being accomplished?

So much of the things we…

Salmon virus originally from the Atlantic, spread to B.C. wild salmon from farms: Study

It also shows that wild Chinook salmon are more likely to be infected with PRV the closer they are to salmon farms, which suggests farms transfer the virus to wild salmon.

Genome sequencing of viruses from farms and wild fish further indicates that transmission occurs between farms and wild salmon.

“Both our genomic and epidemiological methods independently came to the same conclusion, that salmon farms act as a source and amplifier of PRV transmission,” said Dr. Gideon Mordecai, a viral ecologist and Liber Ero fellow with UBC Science and researcher with UBC Medicine, who led the study. “Because separate lines of independent evidence all point to the same answer, we’re confident in our finding.”
