The Road to Success Is Paved with Hardships

Anita's Perspectives on Life

A Tribute to My Beloved Father

I want to share something that really inspired me and completely changed my mindset during these recent corona times. This story reminded me that we are built stronger than we think we are. We just must find strength in ourselves.

When the quarantine first started, I must say that I was feeling sorry for myself as I had my usual travel plans and even my tickets were booked. Shortly after, being locked up in my house, I went into a few days of self-criticism thinking about all the negative things that I could possibly come up with.

The fact that travel came to a complete halt when I was just ready to leave, the stress that I was quarantined at my home whereas my family was not with me, and the dread of not knowing when I will be able to next see my…

Texas State Historical Association | Segregation (Me: will this material be banned in Texas schools now?)

SEGREGATION.Segregation is the physical separation of peoples on the basis of ethnicity and social custom historically applied to separate African Americans and Mexican Americans from Whites in Texas. Racial attitudes that supported segregation of African Americans probably arrived in Texas during the 1820s in company with the “peculiar institution,” slavery. Anglo-Americans began extending segregation to Mexican Americans after the Texas Revolution as a social custom. Tejanos formed a suspect class during and after the revolution, and that fact led to a general aversion of them. After the Civil War, segregation developed as a method of group control. For both minority groups, segregation existed in schools, churches, residential districts, and most public places such as restaurants, theaters, and barber shops. By the latter years of the nineteenth century, institutionalized segregation flourished legally in places with a visible Black population and was extended informally to Tejanos. Most Texas towns and cities had a “Negro quarter” and a “Mexican quarter.” Source: TSHA | Segregation

Natural Tomato (& Other Vining Plant) Ties Found In Your Yard + Photos from My Garden

Ideas and Advice for How To Live a Joyful and Empowered Life.

Long grass works to tie your tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, peas or anything you need tied to a stake or trellis. You can use 2 or three pieces together to strengthen it. I have found this very convenient and I am more apt to get the job done when the supplies are a few steps away. Also, grass is compostable.

Please share your gardening tips in the comments.

Here are some photos from my garden:

El encanto de la lluvia

Sweet rain, yes but in excessive amounts, not always so sweet…

Village of Lytton, B.C., evacuated as mayor says ‘the whole town is on fire’ | CBC News

A small B.C. village that endured the hottest temperatures ever recorded in Canada for days on end this week was engulfed in flames Wednesday night and residents were forced to flee, many without their belongings.  Mayor Jan Polderman says he told everyone to leave Lytton, as a fire rapidly spread into the community of about 250 people. He signed the official evacuation order at 6 p.m. PT. “It’s dire. The whole town is on fire,” Polderman told CBC News. “It took, like, a whole 15 minutes from the first sign of smoke to, all of a sudden, there being fire everywhere.” He said he told residents to head for the nearby community of Boston Bar, and was on his way there himself. A reception centre has also been set up in Merritt to the east, and other residents have taken shelter in Lillooet to the north.

Away, Away

Shayan's Sphere

O away, away from city and towns
To the wildest woods and solitary sounds,
Oh, where tears not rush and sorrow not sings
For death and mourns over moribund beings,
I will carry my soul and build my house
With joys and bliss where hearts arouse;
And flee like birds and flee like beasts
To the darkest moors where fears resist.
I will forget to me and live in peace,
O away, away where pain doth cease,
And share my rhymes and share my words
And recite my verse with beguiling birds;
And enjoy my pleasures, enjoy my life,
O away, away from clash and strife;
And then yea merge with this woods so deep
And perish, perish in eternal sleep!

Remembering ( before lock up )

Smith Shine Poetry

Feels like I've been
here so long,
so I strain to think back
to when things weren't so wrong.

But all I see is my hands
cuffed in a sweatbox,
so I strive even harder,
trying to forget about locks.

No! I'm in a cold court cell,
and like a scared snail,
I retreat alone into my shell.

Still thinking endeavouring
to remember, but all I can see
is a man in a wig,
dictating my future and
how I am going to live.

'Stand up! Sit down!'
Fixed on thinking is
causing me to frown.

And then, I remember
the girls! the beach! the sun!
back in the days
when it was fun.

Attempting to stay in this
memory, until this time has past,
getting there can't
come too fast.

Not my Friend, Not My Foe

Grounds For Hope

You aren’t my friend; you aren’t my foe
      You aren’t my lover anymore.
A friend is the one who’s always there
ready to give a helping hand.
A friend is the one who deeply cares,
whose trust doesn’t blow away like sand.
A friend is the one who doesn’t text
a dreary and insincere “Hello”
But someone who calls without doubt,
with cheerful words that are healing like aloe.
A friend is the one who knows you well
Who doesn’t compete and doesn’t pretend.
Doesn’t create an illusion of friendship.
A friend helps to bear hardship.
You aren’t my friend; you aren’t my foe
You aren’t my lover anymore.
