WHO warns Coronavirus rising in eastern Mediterranean region – The Washington Post

Al-Mandhari said more than 500 million vaccine doses are still needed to vaccinate at least 40% of the population of countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region by the end of 2021.

“We are far, far behind from reaching this goal,” he said, adding that misinformation about vaccine efficacy and the virus have deepened vaccine hesitancy in the region.

Tokyo to host Olympics under COVID-19 state of emergency

The Japanese government plans to declare another COVID-19 state of emergency in Tokyo until Aug. 22, a period covering the duration of the Olympics, to combat a recent surge in infections, sources with knowledge of the plan said Wednesday.

The decision is certain to affect an impending decision by games organizers regarding how many spectators to allow in the stands, with a senior government official saying venues in the capital will likely remain empty. Some venues of the games are located outside Tokyo.

The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 920 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the most since mid-May at the peak of Japan’s fourth wave of infections and topping the figure from a week earlier for the 18th straight day.

Russia declares Estonian consul detained by FSB persona non grata — Meduza

The Russian Foreign Ministry has declared Estonia’s consul to St. Petersburg persona non grata. The diplomat now has 48 hours to leave the country, the state news agency TASS reported on Wednesday, July 7.

The consul, Mart Latte, was detained by the Federal Security Service (FSB) on July 6. The FSB said that the diplomat was “caught red-handed while receiving classified documents from a Russian citizen.” The Estonian Foreign Ministry condemned Latte’s detention as “illegal and provocative.” The consul was released an hour and a half after the arrest.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that “there is irrefutable evidence” of Latte’s “illegal activities,” adding that they had lodged a “strong protest” with the Estonian Embassy in Moscow’s counselor. The ministry added that Moscow considers Tallinn’s official position on Latte’s detention “cynical.”

Insurrection Update #6

In Saner Thought

Yesterday was the 6 month anniversary of the failed coup by Trump supporters….

My continuing series on the betrayal of the republic on 06 January 2021 bu followers of his high disillusioned followers of his highness Trump.

Why do I call this person such?

Well one GOPer thinks he is to put it bluntly…..GOD.

Glorious readers, it’s time to meet Wisconsin Republican Senate President Chris Kapenga, who probably ought to wash his tongue after the letter he just delivered unto Dear Leader Trump, begging for his approval and desperately trying to prove his devotion. It is the most embarrassing thing we have ever seen from a person who is ostensibly a grown man. It is more embarrassing than Tom Cotton trying to do push-ups and instead doing the worm because he’s apparently been skipping core day for the past 20 years.

Granted this douche was not part of the insurrection…

Wondering Wednesdays, Baby Acres, Chapter 1, part IV: The End (Goal)

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This post finishes the rough draft of  Chapter 1 of my non-fiction WiP, Baby Acres.  This is all of outline section IV, chapter 1, end of chapter 1.

This section is about 1100 words long, as I wanted each chapter section to be.

And still again, by way of disclaimer, the overall goal is now to explain why we need both equ. + justice, & why in 4 phases.  This chapter will transition to a chapter (2-5) for each phase, showing what Phases I-IV could look like as part of a possible roadmap for a fully inclusive society for all of us.  This vision is laid out in the hope that All HumanKind  will eventually have each person’s basic needs  met, without taking anything from anyone, and without violence, intimidation, nor coercion of any kind.

Chapter One, section IV:

(section III was last week…)

IV.

chapter 1,  IV:  Where…

‘The Entire World Grovels to the Jews’: Belarus Dictator Alexander Lukashenko in Antisemitic Outburst | Jewish & Israel News Algemeiner.com

Ninety percent of Belarus’s Jewish community — 800,000 people — were exterminated during the Holocaust. As in other countries in the region, including Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine and Latvia, the issue of local collaboration with the occupying Germans has been the subject of bitter debate in Belarus. One unit of the SS composed of Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian collaborators was known as the 1st Belarusian Division, while thousands of Belarusians also served the internal security apparatus created by the Nazis following the 1941 invasion.

Yad Vashem, Israel’s national memorial to the Holocaust, has named 669 Belarusians as “Righteous Among the Nations” for risking their lives to protect Jews.

Lukashenko’s antisemitic outburst comes at a time when Belarus is facing increasing international scrutiny.
