We’re Losing the Vaccine Race | NeuroLogica Blog

Perhaps the race is not entirely over. We can still sprint to the finish line with a huge pushback against misinformation, and making sure people understand how serious this delta variant is. It’s also likely not the pandemic’s last word – there will be more variants, and they may be more contagious and/or deadly. Science won’t passively save us. It is a tool only, but we have to use that tool wisely. Source: We’re Losing the Vaccine Race | NeuroLogica Blog

Black People Excluded From Missouri CRT Hearing

On Monday, a Missouri legislative committee held an invite-only hearing on Critical Race Theory and how the state’s educators should teach racism in K-12 schools. The committee is now under heavy criticism for excluding an enormously important element needed to have any critical and productive discussion on the subject of race and racism—Black people.

According to local news station KSHB 41, not a single Black parent, educator or scholar was invited to testify to the Joint Committee on Education. Not only did the committee preside over the Tim Burton movie of legislative hearings, but outside of a single official from Missouri’s education department, everyone who was heard from during the hearing was an opponent of the academic study conservatives across the nation are pretending to actually know anything about.

New Video: Laura Carbone Performs “Nightride” at Rockpalast – The Joy of Violent Movement

With the release of her first two albums — 2016’s Sirens and 2018’s Empty Sea — Berlin-based singer/songwriter, guitarist and photographer  Laura Carbone received attention across the European Union and elsewhere for a sound and approach that frequently draws comparisons to PJ HarveyShana FalanaChelsea WolfeSt. Vincent and others.

While opening for The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Carbone and her backing band quickly established a reputation for a powerful live show, which she further cemented with a headlining tours across the European Union and North America. (If you’ve been frequenting this site over the past couple of years, you might recall that I caught Carbone when she played Baby’s All Right back in 2019. A lifetime ago, it seems.)

States are sitting on millions of surplus Covid-19 vaccine doses

Several state health departments told STAT they have repeatedly asked the federal government to redistribute their supply to other countries, many of which are facing a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Officials in Washington have rejected those requests, citing legal and logistical challenges.

“We’re drowning in this stuff,” said Robert Ator, a retired colonel in the Arkansas Air National Guard who is leading that state’s Covid-19 vaccine distribution drive. “It’s starting to get a bit silly and we want to make sure we’re being good stewards.”

Some of the wastage could be forestalled if U.S. health officials extend the shelf life of the vaccine developed by Pfizer, but such expiration dates can only be extended so far.

What A Tragic Waste!!!

Ditto!!

Filosofa's Word

I’ve made no secret of my feelings about millionaires and billionaires who hoard their wealth rather than using it to help people in need.  I’ve also made no secret of my feelings about space travel in this, the 21st century, but in case you missed it, I think it is a complete and total waste of resources.  Combine the two, and you have a very pissed off Filosofa!  Every night, thousands of children around the world go to bed hungry.  Every day, people are dying of diseases that could have been prevented, if only they had access to affordable healthcare.  People are living in their cars, under overpasses on highways.  Some people are working 2-3 jobs just to ensure their children have enough to eat.  And this nation spends millions, billions to play Buzz Lightyear.  NASA’s budget for 2021 is $23.3 billion!  Imagine how many people could eat for…
