(9) Victory At Sea – Episode 04 ~ Midway Is East (Complete Episode) – YouTube

Midway Is East is about how Japan attempted to force the United States out of the war early. Japan continued it’s expansion as Japan forced the surrenders of Hong Kong, the Philippines and Singapore in their quest to control the entire Pacific Ocean region. In March of 1942, the Americans broke the Japanese code and then halted the Japanese invasion of Australia at the Battle of the Coral Sea. Then all changed during the Battle of Midway. The Japanese strike force attempted a landing on the island of Midway. The Americans were ready and Admiral Spruance’s carrier forced attacked the Japanese fleet and eventually sunk all four Japanese carriers, while losing only the Lexington. The entire war with Japan turned forever in the Americans favor at Midway and never again were the Japanese on the offensive again.

Vaccine Mandates and Stock Prices

CRAIN'S COMMENTS

Wells Fargo cites the high U.S. vaccination rate as a chief reason that the economy will not face the disruptions it did during the initial outbreak.

SeekingAlpha, email, 08/09/2021

The argument in this financial report is that companies that have imposed vaccination requirements on employees have seen their stock prices risk, driving the Dow Jones Industrial Average back into record territory.

The backhanded, unstated comment is that the areas of the US that have low vaccine rates are not important to the national economy — places like Mississippi, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana and Wyoming. In fact, that’s true, if we look at the percent of the national Gross Domestic Product each state produces:

The top 10 states are

  1. California 14.7% of total US output
  2. Texas 8.5%
  3. New York 8.0%
  4. Florida 5.2%
  5. Pennsylvania 3.7%
  6. Ohio 3.2%
  7. Georgia 3.0%
  8. Washington 3.0%
  9. Massachusetts 2.8%
  10. North Carolina 2.8%

These 10 states account for 51.9% of…

Gone! Poof!

To date, 361,000 acres have been laid to waste by the Dixie fire. 361,000 acres!!! Don’t look away, don’t get that glazed look in your eyes … this is … this is our planet, my friends!!! These are trees, the wildlife that live within and around the trees, GONE! DEAD!!! People have died, homes and lives have been destroyed! And as of yesterday, it was only 21% contained, meaning that more trees, more wildlife will die, more homes and people’s lives will be destroyed.

Filosofa's Word

This is Greenville, California, just a few short weeks ago …

This is Greenville, California, today …

Quite a change, yes?  A whole town … gone.  What you are seeing is the devastation left behind by the Dixie fire, now listed as the state’s 2nd largest fire in California’s history.  What you are seeing is a result of the coal and oil industries and their purchased members of Congress who have blocked efforts to switch from fossil fuels to renewable sources.  What you are seeing is the result of centuries of wanton disregard for our forests, our wetlands, our natural resources.  What you are seeing is the destruction of life on planet earth by … well, the human inhabitants of planet earth … yes, YOU and ME.

To date, 361,000 acres have been laid to waste by the Dixie fire.  361,000 acres!!!  Don’t look away, don’t get that…

Covid-19: How effective are vaccines against the delta variant? | The BMJ

The delta variant is now the dominant form of SARS-CoV-2 in the UK and many other countries. Chris Baraniuk asks how effective the leading vaccines are against this new threat “Two days after my first symptoms, I began to feel seriously ill,” wrote BBC TV presenter Andrew Marr.1 He described how he had previously felt invulnerable having received both of his covid vaccine doses. Nonetheless, he became infected with the virus, which he suspects he caught at the G7 summit in Cornwall. Marr recovered but some have not. Data from Public Health England (PHE) reveal that of all the people who died within 28 days of testing positive for the delta variant between 1 February and 19 July, 49% (224) had had two vaccine doses. Almost all of these people, 220, were aged 50 or older.2 As the statistician David Spiegelhalter notes, in a population where less-than-perfect vaccines have been distributed widely, one would expect to see deaths occurring among vaccinated people as the virus spreads. And so far, in contrast to the winter when far fewer people had received vaccines, the rate of hospital admissions and deaths in the UK is not rising as sharply as cases. Although uncertainty remains,
