Trump’s Lies Hurting Haitian Immigrants Across The U.S. | HuffPost Latest News

Trump has never been one to let facts get in the way. Springfield was in the midst of dealing with bomb threats and evacuating its schools when Trump went to the borough of Indiana, Pennsylvania, for a rally and targeted another town.

“The small, 4,000-person town of Charleroi, Pennsylvania. Charleroi. What a beautiful name. It’s not so beautiful now,” he said. “[It] has experienced a 2,000% increase in the population of Haitian migrants under Kamala Harris.”

Local leaders were confused by Trump’s claims. There are an estimated 700 to 2,000 immigrants, mostly Haitians, living in Charleroi today, which represents up to a 50% increase, nowhere near 2,000%, in the last few years.

But conservatives quickly pounced. Chaya Raichik, who runs the LibsofTikTok account that frequently distributes misinformation, posted on X (formerly Twitter) to claim that the Biden administration was busing Haitian immigrants to Charleroi to take American jobs. She included a video that she said provided evidence, but it was actually a video of Haitian workers using company-provided shuttles to get to work.

Trump Camp Says State Menstrual Surveillance Programs are A-OK – TPM – Talking Points Memo

JD Vance is a major menstrual surveillance hawk. When the Biden administration pushed for updated HIPAA regulations to prevent sheriff’s departments and other law enforcement agencies from pulling women’s medical records for their menstrual surveillance programs (which they termed “compassionate laws protecting unborn children and their mothers”), Vance was one of only 28 members of Congress (and only 8 senators) to sign a letter protesting the new regs, which, per the letter, “interfere with valid state laws protecting life.” (You can see the letter here. It’s a doozy.)

Think about those numbers. Out of all the crazies in the House Republican caucus and among the 49 Republican senators, they couldn’t even get 30 people to sign this thing. But the Trump campaign itself, not surprisingly, has done its best to avoid the issue. I mean, how could they not? Even the name is toxic.

But yesterday in an interview on Newsmax of all places, a host asked Trump spokesman Jason Miller whether Donald Trump supported or wouldn’t aim to prevent states from enforcing their own menstrual surveillance regimes. It was one of those Fox-like interviews in which the host seems to go out of his way to signal what the right answer is. You wouldn’t do this, right?

“But he wouldn’t support monitoring pregnancies, even if a state decided to do that?” the host asked.

Miller responded that “he’s [i.e., Trump’s] made it very clear that he’s not going to go and weigh in and push various states on how they want to go and set up their particular rules and restrictions. That’s going to be up to the states.”

So he went there. It’s totally up to the states. Trump’s “leave it up to the states” approach applies to all these menstrual surveillance and travel restriction regimes as well. It’s a new opening for the Harris campaign to focus attention on an issue that hasn’t yet gotten enough attention — not just abortion rights as a general issue but states and county sheriffs’ effort to restrict women’s travel, access their medical records and current state of menstruation or gestation, and bar access to legal medications.

So menstrual surveillance programs in states with Trump abortion bans are back at the center of the campaign conversation. And it also comes at a propitious time because we’re only days away from the first and apparently only vice presidential debate, which will focus new attention on JD Vance. These programs are way weird. So it’s a nice opening for Tim Walz.v

Man charged with allegedly assaulting mail carrier delivering ‘Harris for President’ mailer – ABC News

“In this highly charged political moment, everyone has a right to their political opinion and vote. Whatever our political beliefs, no one should be assaulted or threatened because of their race, or for doing their job. Hate crimes impact all of us, and we will vigorously pursue all such cases,” McDonald said in the press release.

If convicted of ethnic intimidation, Valleau faces up to two years in prison and/or a fine up to $5,000, according to the release, while the misdemeanor assault and battery charge is punishable by up to 93 days in jail and/or a fine up to $500.

Thousands Sign Christian Petition Against Teaching Bible in Public Schools – Newsweek

Faithful America’s petition, which has just over 15,000 signatures so far in its goal of 20,000 signatures, condemns the proposal and poses the argument for separation of church and state.

“Our nation was founded on the principle of the separation of church and state—a phrase that comes from Thomas Jefferson’s own explanation of the First Amendment—and it has defined our country ever since. Forcing our faith on others is theocracy, and such coercion is not what Christ-like love looks like,” the petition reads.
