Why is England doing worse against Covid than its European neighbours? | Christina Pagel and Martin McKee | The Guardian (Me: Why? Boris is the PM and he does not care how many Brits die or become disabled because of his bad decisions)

England is still doing much worse in terms of Covid deaths than our western European and Nordic neighbours. With more than 7,500 reported deaths since 1 June, England’s current death rate (22 deaths per million people in the last two weeks) is more than twice as high as Germany’s (10 deaths per million people) and almost six times as high as Finland’s (four deaths per million people).

England is not unique in struggling with the Delta variant, which now accounts for almost all cases across Europe. So why are our closest neighbours achieving much better health outcomes given that they, too, have their children back at school, their students back at university, and their business and leisure facilities open? The reason comes down to strategy. While Germany, France, Spain and others have pursued a “vaccine plus” strategy, England has opted for a “vaccine just” strategy.

Belgium expected to pass law to shorten work week to 4 days – UPI.com

Full-time workers in Belgium would still work 38 to 40 hours per week, but the length of one work day would be expanded to 9 and a half hours in exchange for an extra day off.

Officials say the proposal, which is not expected to be mandatory, has widespread support among government leaders.

“In principle, we think it is good towards the freedom of the employee, but of course it has to be a choice of the employee,” Flemish Green Party Chair Meyrem Almaci told VTM News.

Damian Williams 1st Black US Attorney For NY Southern District

Damien Williams was confirmed by the U.S. Senate this week to be the next United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, the first Black person to lead the office in its 232-year history. The position makes him the most powerful federal law enforcement official in Manhattan at the age of 41 years old, according to the New York Times.

People who have held this position have gone on to be judges, senators, cabinet members and even New York City mayor, in the case of Rudy Giuliani. What is interesting about Giuliani is that the Southern District office is investigating the former mayor, a case Williams will be overseeing. He is also overseeing the case of Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime friend to Jeffrey Epstein, who is being tried on sex-trafficking charges. The office has also taken on cases that have reached Donald Trump’s inner circle.

His father’s phone rang at the same time and the question stayed unanswered.

The next day his father handed an old, antique book to Abas.

Abas said: “This is a very valuable book; I promise that I will take good care of it.”

Abas later put the treasured book on a special place in his bookcase to store it.

A few days later his father was reading a newspaper, when he put it down Abas picked the paper up to read it.

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

It is crucial that we each help our society to become more fully inclusive for all of us today, and to come and work together, for all of us, right?

I believe that attention to shared histories, as in DC, may provide part of an answer.  I started a note about that, a few years ago, in my book Stayed on Freedom’s Call:

” … Racial Justice Initiative (RJI)
“…ending violence against our own values as a nation.” -Dr. Edgar Cahn

The Racial Justice Initiative (RJI) came about in 2008 as a result of the work with Time Banks USA. Funding for Time Banks had led to the formation of many middle class Time Banks in small towns and enclaves of larger towns, which were Time Banks mostly of the individual or person to person category.

This highlighted the problems the author noted as a member of the…
