In seventh veteran car heaven

Stella, oh, Stella

… My parents called this kind of car “Snowwhite’s coffin”. Weren’t they actually called “Isetta”? I just looked it up, Isetta by BMW (!!!)

… Also this exhibition was part of Egeskov castle on Fyn. I went amok with my camera in the car hall, as mentioned before, and have only chosen the most interesting ones (in my opinion).

… Let us start with some great old pickup trucks.

… This was not a hearse, but a blacksmith’s car.

Cockpit Country Stakeholders reject “inadequate” EIA for bauxite mining permit

Petchary's Blog

The issue of Cockpit Country has not disappeared. Many concerns remain. Stay tuned. This is from Jamaica Environment Trust (click on the link to the Final EIA mentioned below):

We, the undersigned members of the Cockpit Country Stakeholders Group (CCSG), reject the Final Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for SML 173, now available on the website of the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA). We are at a loss to understand how this substandard document could have been accepted by the state agency with responsibility for public health and the environment.

We understand that deliberations on the granting of an environmental permit to allow bauxite mining adjacent to the Cockpit Country Proposed Protected Area are imminent, so we do not have the luxury of conducting a line by line examination. But the matter is of great importance as the area of SML 173 is within the boundary proposed by the…

Wonton Nachos

snapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Equal Measures: Wonton Nachos! Sounds strange, doesn’t it? That’s what I thought the first time I glanced around the restaurant where couples sat munching away on the mountain of gooey cheese and triangular chips. Fusion foods combine different cultures. There are no rules and this proves it. Take Asian wonton wrappers and blend them with Mexican seasonings and salsa for a perfect pairing. Because wonton wrappers are paper thin dough, they bake up in a matter of minutes. Don’t forget the sprinkling of sea salt. By the time the margaritas are mixed, everything is ready to be assembled onto a platter of spicy Wonton Nachos that encourage conversation. Now put down your cell phones and eat!

WONTON NACHOS

Ingredients:

12-ounce package of wonton wrappers

Nonstick oil

Sea salt

8-ounce package Mexican-style cheese, shredded

Toppings of choice

Salsa for dipping

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 375°. Spray…

Former Gary Police Officer Indicted on Federal Civil Rights Charge for Assaulting Arrestee | OPA | Department of Justice

Terry Peck, 46, a former police officer with the Gary Police Department, was indicted today by a federal grand jury in Hammond, Indiana, for using excessive force against an arrestee.

The indictment charges Peck with a single count of deprivation of rights under color of law. Specifically, the indictment alleges that on March 19, 2019, Peck assaulted an arrestee, identified in the indictment only as R.H., by slamming his head into the side of a patrol vehicle. The indictment further alleges that the incident resulted in bodily injury to R.H.

If convicted of the deprivation of rights charge, Peck faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison; actual sentences are often much lower than the statutory maximum. If convicted, any specific sentence to be imposed will be determined by the Judge after a consideration of federal statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Thirteen Defendants Plead Guilty in $126 Million Compounding Fraud Scheme | OPA | Department of Justice

Thirteen defendants, including three compounding pharmacy owners, three physicians, two pharmacists, and three patient recruiters, pleaded guilty in the Southern District of Texas to a years-long, multi-state scheme to defraud the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP) and TRICARE.

According to court documents, the defendants submitted false and fraudulent claims to the OWCP and TRICARE for prescriptions for compounded and other drugs prescribed to injured federal workers and members of the armed forces. The defendants also paid kickbacks to patient recruiters and to physicians to induce them to prescribe these drugs. The defendants chose the particular compounds and other drugs based not on the patients’ medical needs but in light of the amount of reimbursement for the drugs. The drugs were then mailed to patients, even though the patients often never requested, wanted, or needed them.
