Ann and Anna, (serial short story, Part 10): Warmth

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

      …  Parts 9 (Found)8 (Lost), 7 (Rock), 6 (Believe), 5 (Naming), 4 (Home), 3 (Trust), 2 (Hope), and 1 (Nightmares) have posted on previous Sundays…

The smell of grits pulled me out of the dark place to which I had been dragged by the lightening bugs.  It was a welcome change from that odor of fear in which I had last bathed.  As I opened my eyes, half expecting to see old Mary’s muzzle, instead, I saw only a band of white.  It was evident that I lay upon a bed, softness all around me.  I gave a start, that terrible notion of being back in Virginia taking hold for an instant.

“She’s awake!  Doctor!”

That was Anna’s voice!  My sweet, courageous Anna!  Then, what I saw was no fevered illusion.  It had been her, in…

Kurkuma – Turmeric

Myrela

Sustainable Santa for your pets

Darcy Hitchcock

Americans spend $99 billion on our pets (source). If your dog or cat could write a letter to Santa, they’d ask for non-toxic and tasty stocking stuffers. Here are some ideas. (Note, I’m not endorsing these products; they’re just examples.)

Treats made from insect protein from Chippin or Jiminy’s. Your pet likely eats grasshoppers anyway, right?

Shameless Pets Upcycled Treats made from fruits and veggies that would otherwise go to waste.

Pooch Paper, pet waste bags made from paper, not plastic. Sure, your dog may not be too excited, but not all stocking stuffers are fun.

P.L.A.Y’s hot dog plush toy made from recycled water bottles.

Pet Fusion Flip Pad scratching pad for cats, made from recycled paper and can be recycled once it’s a wreck.

United by Blue leashes made from ocean plastic.

BirdsBeSafe collar for your cats, if you can’t keep them inside.

Jamaica needs to step up its inclusion of persons with disabilities in 2022

Petchary's Blog

Yesterday (December 3) was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and I am glad my friend and blogger Wayne Campbell wrote about it. You can find his post here. It took Jamaica seven years to bring the Disabilities Act into force after it was passed by Parliament in 2014; this will finally happen in February, 2022.

“I urge all countries to fully implement the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, increase accessibility, and dismantle legal, social, economic and other barriers with the active involvement of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations.”

António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations

One- eighth of the world’s population lives with a disability. The inclusion of persons with disabilities is vital for the sustainable development of the planet. TheInternational Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is a United Nations (UN) day that is celebrated every year on 3 December. The 2021 theme…
