It’s The Law, Maaaan

Filosofa's Word

I was working on a post for today … a rather dark post, as it were, for Black History Month … and I came across something that pulled me (temporarily) out of the rabbit hole I was in and made me chuckle.  So, I will finish that post for later today, but meanwhile I think we could all use a bit of mid-week humour!

Understandably, many of the laws from centuries past don’t make much sense today, though no doubt there was some logic behind them back in the day.  But today, they are just funny as heck and most often not enforced but remain on the books anyway.  For instance, in North Dakota, by law, bars and restaurants cannot serve beer and pretzels at the same time!  And in Hartford, Connecticut, it’s against the law to educate dogs! No obedience school for Fido there!

Some of the laws are…

Flatbread Fiesta

snapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Cheerful Choices: Flatbread Fiesta! Do you ever tire of the same old pizza choices? I get in a rut the same way everyone else does. About that time I stand in front of the freezer, door open, peering into its contents searching for ideas to try something extraordinary. Sure, I’m the one buying the groceries (and should know what’s in the house) but that’s when I surprise myself with unexpected specials. Chorizo is one of those impulse items that make it into the cart. I often fry it up, crumble it for meals later on, label it, and then store it in the freezer for another day. It’s at times like this I pat myself on the back with congratulations for having such foresight.

FLATBREAD FIESTA

Ingredients:

1 naan flatbread

1-2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon cornmeal

1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 cup chunky salsa…

Tijavanako, Bolivija – Tiwanaku Bolivia — Myrela

Tip of the iceberg: erectile dysfunction and COVID-19 | International Journal of Impotence Research

The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 caused the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic that resulted in more than 150 million infections and 3.5 million deaths globally. COVID-19 affected men more than women, emerging with more severe disease and higher mortality rates. Androgens may be responsible for the underlying reason of more severe disease, as androgen receptors have been implicated to mediate viral cell entry and infection. Besides, male reproductive organs have been reported to be affected by the especially severe disease, resulting in erectile dysfunction (ED). In this narrative review, we aimed to gather possible mechanisms of the development of ED led by COVID-19. Current evidence illuminates endothelial dysfunction, direct testicular damage, and the psychological burden of COVID-19 that are of the pathways of ED. Although the proposed underlying mechanisms partly fail to answer the questions by which COVID-19 leads to ED, it is important to monitor men who recovered from COVID-19 regarding the sexual dysfunction sequelae of infection and address the long‐term consequences.

Gut Microbiome Composition Is Predictive of Incident Type 2 Diabetes in a Population Cohort of 5,572 Finnish Adults | Diabetes Care | American Diabetes Association

We observed robust species-level taxonomic features predictive of incident type 2 diabetes over long-term follow-up. These findings build on and extend previous mainly cross-sectional evidence and further support links between dietary habits, metabolic diseases, and type 2 diabetes that are modulated by the gut microbiome. The gut microbiome can potentially be used to improve disease prediction and uncover novel therapeutic targets for diabetes.
