“65th story”

A story by Laleh Chini:

I moved to the USA when I was in late 16. The only English I knew was “hello” and “how are you?”

In September 1986 I attended Grade 12 in George Washington High School at Charleston, West Virginia. Not knowing enough English to attend high school was a hard challenge.

For every single subject that I needed to complete to be able to graduate, I had to work triple hard. I had to find every single word in the dictionary to understand every subject.

But it was a great achievement for me and I was very excited and positive about it. Months passed and I was getting better in English and was speaking slowly but more smooth. My English teacher was very kind and patient with me, she talked slowly and clearly to make sure I understood. My Algebra teacher loved me because…

Language… labeling… gender… pronouns… Writers can be especially picky about language (info on my novels-in-progress). Language is far more than vocabulary and grammar. It’s about how people think.

Civil rights movements in the United States really took flight in the 60s and 70s — and language played a major…

Unexpected reaction in Prague after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine · Global Voices – President Zeman

I love Russian culture and I value the Russian victims of World War Two, but this does not mean that I will agree with the invasion of a foreign army on the territory of a sovereign state. Russia has thus committed a crime against peace.

A few days ago, I said that the Russians are not crazy and will not attack Ukraine. I admit I was wrong.

Estamos rotos.

Thoughtful is now Thoughtless Thursdays -La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) p1e1

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

No time to think, still seeking Beta Readers for Do Better, so:

This reaction tries not to spoil the episode, and gives random reactions in the original Spanish, and in English, for the majority of my current readers:

Por qué Dalí ?? … Why Dalí??
Robin Hood…
… Great idea, hiding in the open like paper with watermarks.
Por eso han planeado tanto. … That’s why so much planning.
… The goddess of fertility. He obviously only wants a mistress. Jerk, Arturo.
… And the idiot girl let him take the picture??
… Masked people with guns: yes, this would worry me.

Rigoberta Menchu Tum, Un Libro, y Salud Para Todos

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

(English in this post. Summary: books like Masot’s and like Harry Potter point up PTSD, and the need for Health Care for All of Us, as Rigoberta Menchu Tum points out, in founding her Health Care for All movement…)

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Poluostrvo Valdes, Argentina – Valdes Peninsula, Argentina

Myrela

Poluostrvo…
