daffodil dreams

Develop. Inspire. Transform.

from the tips of my fingers
to the tops of my toes

a flower sits
in repose

calling to me
dejected and forlorn

I compose

myself
and listen to the words whispered
forth

speaking to me of daffodil dreams
and peeks sanguine

in the distance
they seem

like a memory

of another time
when the love you brought to me

was something altogether different
than this fractured reverie

Carlos Drummond de Andrade

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

60 Reasons for Apologies and Reparations from Britain and the Royal Family

Petchary's Blog

I am sorry I did not attach the “60 Reasons” referred to in the Letter from the Advocates Network that I posted last night. Here they are. I have noted suggestions that there could have been a petition that members of the public could sign onto, and that would certainly have been an option.

However, we hope that you will consider and reflect on the reasons below and join a peaceful demonstration outside the British High Commission in Kingston tomorrow (Tuesday, March 22) at 10:30 a.m. Jamaica time.

60 REASONS FOR APOLOGIES AND REPARATIONS FROM BRITAIN AND ITS ROYAL FAMILY

After 60 years of Independence we have not forgotten and we demand an APOLOGY and REPARATIONS…

CONQUEST & TRANSATLANTIC TRAFFICKING OF AFRICANS

  1. For continuing after the 1655 conquest of Jamaica from Spain, the exploitation of the indigenous people of Jamaica, capturing their land, and forcing them to continue escaping to…

Ukrainian Holocaust survivor killed by Russian airstrike over Kharkiv – The Jerusalem Post

Borys Romanchenko died from Russian airstrikes while in his Kharkiv apartment, Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba confirmed on Monday.

Romanchenko, 96-years-old, survived four Nazi concentration camps: Buchenwald, Peenemünde, Mittelbau-Dora and Bergen-Belsen, Kuleba said.

“Survived [Adolf] Hitler, murdered by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin,” the Ukrainian foreign minister wrote on Twitter, in a tribute to Romanchenko.

Minbari Mondays, and Two Lessons in “Severed Dreams” (B5:s3e10) About Despair

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This week we are no longer bothering to try to find ways to be happy about the fact that Ranger Mayann is prohibited from writing to us from Minbar.

    This week’s lessons:

          1.  All of history is filled with moments of despair.

          2.  Sometimes, faith in hope really is required to get through that moment.

This episode so well captures the sentiments of many people, that “the problems of others are not our concern” since they do not seem to affect them, personally, and that what one does in isolation will not affect others (if one cared).   Neither of these sentiments is true.  But to understand that, one must have the context of history, and the perspective provided by knowing that there is more than just oneself.  Or at least remembering that so far, no person in history has managed to toilet train…

♫ I Started A Joke ♫ (Redux)

Filosofa's Word

The only other time I played this song was in August 2020.  For some reason, as I was working through comments last night, I thought of the first line to this song … “I started a joke which started the whole world crying”.  I have no idea what triggered it, but it came and nearly brought me to tears.  And so, what better way to share whatever demons are bouncing inside my head than to share this song?

I Started a Joke is a song by the Bee Gees from their 1968 album Idea, which was released as a single in December of that year. It was not released as a single in the United Kingdom, where buyers who could not afford the album had to content themselves with a Polydor version by Heath Hampstead. This is the last Bee Gees single to feature Vince Melouney’s guitar work, as he left the band in…
