Labour Day in our neighbourhood: Trash, trucks – and teamwork!

Petchary's Blog

I confess that I used to be rather cynical about Labour Day. It seemed like a bit of a PR stunt for political leaders, who pose from various angles while planting a tree, or painting a wall for five minutes.

Well, on Monday, May 23 we still had some of that. Both Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding gave us Labour Day Messages, and both did some work in Mandela Park, a much-neglected area in the middle of Half Way Tree. I disagree with the Prime Minister that perhaps the Park should be moved elsewhere. It’s in an extremely busy area. All it needs is some TLC, on a regular basis. It’s good to have a spot like this in a busy place – but it must be maintained and cleaned on a regular basis.

This annoying theme song sounds better, with her rolling her ‘r’s, than that travesty of a song “Amado Mio” in English, with the hard “dmaking me grit my teeth!!

significant value in letting nature be our educator. Whenever I would take my students outside, new questions, observations and connections would arise. This led me to be flexible in my lessons and let the students’ inquiries shape our learning. 89 more words What can we learn from the trees? — National Geographic Education Blog

Reason for Living (or Non-living)

“I’m going to shoot my grandmother.”

“I’ve shot my grandmother.”

“I’m going to shoot an elementary school.”

These are the three messages on Facebook sent by the 18-year old Texas gunman who was shot dead before he could send his fourth message. But before that he killed 19 children and two teachers.

This is the latest bout of gun-fueled mass murder in the United States, but surprisingly President Joe Biden blamed the gun laws for mass shootings. I’m at a loss who frames the laws. Today the ratio of 120.5 firearms per 100 residents of United States is the highest around the world. Is it not alarming?

The political angle must always be there. Gun lobbies may also be there. But the rationalists advocate a culture of freedom and liberalism. They say that this sort of incident is just a symptom, and not the disease. The root cause is a…

The Great Re-write|

A Voice from Iran

“117th story”

First published: Nov.14.2019

manuscript-203465__340

A man was sitting in his room with deep sad thoughts and a pen in his hand. He wrote: “I’ve had a terrible year. Last year I had surgery and took my gallbladder out.

I had to stay at home for a while because I had complicated surgery.

I turned sixty that year and lost my job. I worked for thirty years for this publishing company and loved my job.

I lost my father in that sad year, and it broke my heart. My son had a severe accident last year, and because of his injuries and being in the cast, he couldn’t participate in exams and lost his chance at medical school that year.

The car turned into a piece of garbage, and we didn’t have full coverage insurance to fix it. Oh dear God, what a terrible year.”

I Can’t Stop 🤬 … Luckily, Max Boot Can!

This effectively knocks out the usual right wing and NRA reasons offered to deal with mass shootings instead of keeping military weapons off the street and guns out of the hands of those who should not have easy access to them.

Filosofa's Word

For over 24 hours I have been alternately growling, grumbling, and had @#$%& coming from my mouth over Tuesday’s school massacre in Texas and the horrid responses of some public figures.  I tried twice to put my words to paper, but I ran out of symbols 🤬 and quickly realized that my anger might be just as toxic as the responses that were driving it.  Then I came across an OpEd by The Washington Post’s Max Boot who said most of what I was trying to say, but did so without nearly as many 🤬

The deceitful dodges Republicans use to resist gun controls

By Max Boot, Columnist

May 25, 2022

We are now embarked upon a distinctively American ritual such as the Super Bowl or the Fourth of July — only much, much grimmer. We are, for the umpteenth time, in the immediate aftermath of a mass…

Decomposição Humana

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

etapa do tempo.

Gigante,

Perdido entre confissões e ganância, pérolas talvez!

Saber sê-lo lúcido,

Solto,

Livre.

Que pode um homem

Entre as próprias confissões

Condições de esperto

balbuciar a própria sorte?

Lembra que foste jovem,

Viril,
