CENSORED NEWS: Censored Movie Today: Buffie’s Song and ‘Soldier Blue’

Hey, Gun Lovers

just drive, will you?

Here’s a reminder of what former United States Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger – a Conservative – said on three separate occasions, regarding that precious Second Amendment to the Constitution. My apologies for the somewhat blurry image; it’s not your eyes, I promise. Larry

I wonder if the current Supreme Court Justices have heard this.

Or if they care.

Vinicius de Moraes

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Essa mulher que se arremessa, fria

E lúbrica em meus braços, e nos seios

Me arrebenta e me beija e balbucia

Versos, votos de amor e nomes feios.

Essa mulher, flor de melancolia

Que se ri dos pálidos receios

A única entre todas que quem dei

Os caminhos que nunca a outra daria.

Essa mulher que a cada amor proclama

A miséria e a grandeza de quem ama

E guarda a marca dos meus dentes nela.

Essa mulher é um mundo! – uma cadela

Talvez… – mas na moldura de uma cama

Nunca mulher nenhuma foi tão bela!

MOURNING IN AMERICA

MOURNING IN AMERICA

As the sun that day climbed in the Texas sky,

nineteen fourth graders got dressed to die,

nineteen mothers kissed their kids good-bye,

it’s mourning in America.

As that day the sun bore from a merciless sky,

and Uvalde recoiled, too numb even to cry,

while the cops left the bleeding to quietly die,

it’s mourning in America.

As nineteen children went to their eternal rest,

with a bullet in their head or lodged in their chest,

and the sun went down in the bloody-red West,

it’s mourning in America.

As tears of woe fell in the waning light,

and dirges were played through the long plaintive night,

while the citizenry cried out, “It just can’t be right!”

it’s mourning in America.

With one fewer afternoon school bus stops to…

The Week’s Best Cartoons: Tragedy in Uvalde

Filosofa's Word

As you might imagine, the main (only) topic of the ‘toons this week is the horrific mass murder at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that took the lives of 19 children and two teachers.  And as she does each week, our friend TokyoSand has scanned the news sources and found the best of the ‘toons.  Be forewarned, though … there is no humour here today, only broken hearts, anger, and grief.  Still, the cartoonists have managed to put into a single picture what our own hearts are trying to say.  Please be sure to follow the link at the bottom to see the rest of the ‘toons.  Thank you, TS.

Editorial cartoons are very specific — they respond and react to current events. But what struck me this week as I watched cartoonists share their work on Twitter, was that it was sometimes hard to distinguish which cartoons were…

What Gun Fans Will Say … — Beauty is Imperfection

just drive, will you?

I thought you might like to hear from someone who grew up around guns debunking some of the more often recited pro-gun arguments. The problem in our country is not guns; it’s gun defenders. Larry

I grew up with at least three guns in my house in Oklahoma, including long guns and handguns, and learned to shoot them when I was young. So I’ve been hearing the flawed reasoning of gun rights supporters my whole life. We are hearing them again after the mass murder of children in Uvalde, Texas. […]

What Gun Fans Will Say …

Debunking pro-gun arguments…

Beauty is Imperfection

I grew up with at least three guns in my house in Oklahoma, including long guns and handguns, and learned to shoot them when I was young. So I’ve been hearing the flawed reasoning of gun rights supporters my whole life. We are hearing them again after the mass murder of children in Uvalde, Texas. I myself didn’t care much about the gun issue until 20 children were slaughtered, along with six adults, in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012. Then I realized kids were dying every day unnecessarily because people like me were not speaking up about what we knew.

The following is a list of things gun enthusiasts will say to you in the backlash as most Americans demand sensible gun laws. The assertions are going to include outright lies about history and physics, logical fallacies and cute bumper sticker slogans that talk around the substance of the argument. (“Guns…
