The FTC goes after GoodRx for sharing users’ health data with Meta and Google – Vox

GoodRx has not been very good at your privacy. And now the Federal Trade Commission has written an expensive prescription: a hefty fine and an agreement to implement various privacy protections.

If you’re one of the tens of millions of people who used GoodRx to find bargains on your medications, the drug discount and price-shopping website and app might have done a little more than you bargained for: It sent your sensitive health data to data brokers as well as tech companies like Meta and Google to use for advertising, according to the FTC.

The FTC announced on Wednesday that GoodRx has agreed to pay a $1.5 million fine and take various steps to ensure that it no longer shares health data for advertising purposes, that it obtains user consent to share health data for other reasons, and that it makes an effort to get the third parties with whom it previously shared data to delete that data.

“It depends on us”: Jamaica poised to join Caribbean Women in Leadership

Petchary's Blog

It will be a new chapter. All the women who joined a recent planning meeting in a Kingston hotel recently agreed. The meeting was convened by Una May Gordon, who as former Principal Director of the Climate Change Division was full of an energy and drive that I greatly admired. Those qualities are still there in abundance, and in Una May’s empowering smile, accompanied by a slightly stern style of delivery. The group consisted of several women politicians from both sides of the fence (including Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Donna Scott-Mottley, Opposition Spokesperson on Justice, among others), as well as members of civil society. Unfortunately, I did not take photographs.

What was the planning for? To establish a Jamaican Chapter of the Trinidad-basedCaribbean Women in Leadership (CWiL). CWiL describes itself as “a non-partisan and independent, flagship networking organization committed to advancing women’s transformational leadership…

Writing Process Wednesdays, and An Over Planned Scene — Inspiring Critical Thinking and Community via Books, Lessons, and Story

This is the scene for which I had too many notes about possibilities and risks of escape, written down on paper and in my spreadsheet, and then again duplicated in an app that I no longer use, which is taking a third year, now, to get written.    Also, trying to put too many scene […]

♫ I Can’t Stop Loving You ♫ — Filosofa’s Word

This song was written and originally recorded by a country singer named Don Gibson in 1958.  Ray Charles was known as an R&B singer, but he defied convention and decided to record an album of country and western songs. His producer, Sid Feller, put together tapes containing about 150 classic country songs so Charles could […]
