Westmoreland’s Festival Queen is a champion for Jamaica’s Women and Girls in STEM

There are several reasons why I am so interested in the current contenders for the Miss Festival Queen 2023. No, I have not suddenly become a fan of sashes and glittering crowns. However, I have becomea fan of the individual contestants – especially, the parish winners, who clearly have not only vision, but focus and determination; a lot more than just their beautiful smiles. Jamaican women are to be admired, in so many ways. Miss Westmoreland Festival Queen is certainly one.

Ms. Patman, a graduate of the historic Manning’s School, has chosen an important and continuously evolving field. I have recognised the significant role that radiography plays in prevention and diagnosis in Jamaica’s health sector, as well as elsewhere – and experienced it for myself, during my journey with breast cancer. I am booked in for a mammography next month, one year after my surgery.
