Orange County, Florida, Removed 673 Books from Classroom Shelves | Diane Ravitch’s blog

The books run the gamut, from John Milton’s 17th-century epic poem “Paradise Lost” to John Grisham’s 1991 New York Times bestseller “The Firm.” John Steinbeck’s “East of Eden” and John Irving’s “The World According to Garp” made the list, too.

The list also includes popular novels by Stephen King, Sue Monk Kidd and Jodi Picoult, classics like “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,” “Jude the Obscure,” and “Madame Bovary,” and award-winning books like “A Thousand Acres,” “Beloved,” and “Love in the Time of Cholera.”

The books that surprised me most were:

PARADISE LOST

A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN

MADAME BOVARY

BRAVE NEW WORLD

Do you think teenagers will rush to read Milton’s Paradise Lost or Flaubert’s Madame Bovary now that they are banned?

Reflections 23. – Coisas da SIL

Reflections for 23.

Reflections for the last few days
Meanwhile I read and drink my coffee.
These common things I do when I wake up on vacation days.
As I drink, I realize that this may be simple, but it starts to have meaning every day, of who I am and who I want to be.
If you do what you like, that’s enough.
It doesn’t need much.
It’s just that sometimes we don’t slow down to realize how far we’ve come.
Congratulations to you who have found yourself in simple things and become enchanted again.
This is what we need every day.
Of enchantment, for ourselves and for the simple things in life where money is not the main key.
Be enchanted by life, by the kindness that exists in people, by the simplicity of having a coffee and reading a book, listening to a song, having a hug that relieves tiredness. Simple things, understand?
Please be enchanted by yourself first, by things and just live…Live without fear, without judgment or demands, just live lightly.
I hope to see you in 2024, with more maturity, welcoming and sincere words.
Thank you for being with me!

Pensamentos.me – Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Heating buildings from wastewater – Darcy Hitchcock

University campuses and hospitals are good candidates for early adoption because they already group together a critical mass of buildings that can act as an anchor tenant to make a project financially feasible.

But once it’s built and shown to provide reliable heat at a fraction of the cost of traditional sources, the wastewater heat could be extended to other buildings in the area.
