I LOOKED UP “RETROGRADE” | NANMYKEL.COM

After reading that Arizona’s Supreme Court has ruled that  a near total abortion ban from 1864 is enforceable,  the word “retrograde” came to mind, and I looked it up on Google to see if I was right.  I was:  Among  many definitions Google led me to, I liked best

“tending towards an earlier worse condition; declining or deteriorating.”
NBC News reports that The ruling is on hold for 14 days, and voters will likely have a chance to weigh in on a ballot measure to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution this fall.

WHY do I keep comparing the anti-abortion folks with our history of imprisoning suffragettes?
More than 300 suffragettes were incarcerated at Holloway prison during the early 20th century in one of the darker aspects of the campaign for the vote for women, and one that has historical and contemporary resonance for the women’s liberation movement. Built in 1852, Holloway prison became a female-only site in 1903.
The women of the National Woman’s Party sentenced to prison in November 1917 for picketing the White House had no idea what awaited them when they arrived at the Occoquan Workhouse. They endured brutality and abuse from the prison guards, but remained committed to their cause.
On Nov. 15, 1917, about 20 women were subjected to beatings and torture at Occoquan Workhouse, a prison in Virginia, in what became known as the “Night of Terror.” On the evening of Nov. 14, the superintendent ordered his guards to brutally assault imprisoned suffragists.
We’ll see if women nowadays are more “pushovers” than the suffragettes were, come  November.  Overcoming the throw of the dice that made us female presents a long row to hoe.

Fiódor Dostoievski – Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

” A falta de liberdade não consiste jamais em estar segregado, e sim em estar sem promiscuidade, pois o suplício inenarrável é não se poder estar sozinho.

When Da Mind Bounces … | Filosofa’s Word

T’would seem that I have a lot on my mind lately … so much that it has caused my mind to do that bouncing thing it sometimes does, so today I share just a few of the things that are bouncing around in the empty spaces inside my head.

Why is the murder of a nursing student, Laken Riley, more “horrible” than the murder of school children.  Riley was allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant, and that supposedly makes it a far greater crime than the murders of the children in Uvalde?  And … one, just one murder seems to matter more than how many murders every single day?  Why are Republicans turning Riley into a martyr for the cause of stopping immigration.  How ‘bout we turn the murder of 20+ at Uvalde into martyrs for the cause of gun control?

Before Ohio’s strict photo voter ID law was enacted in 2023, the rejection rate of provisional ballots due to ID issues was between 5%-8%. After the law took effect, the rejection rate increased to more than 28%, according to a report from All Voting is Local.

If I were running for an elected office, I like to think that I would campaign based on what qualifies me for that office, and what I would do to make things better for the people I would be representing.  Today, though, campaigns seem to focus only on smearing and denigrating the opposition…

God teach us love – Love is God’s fishing rod, she catches those who love with it

We experienced the wonderful adventure of love together,
We wrote our story from the bottom of our hearts.
We waited for the lover on the bridge of love,
Our hearts touched and we were filled with love.
We illuminated the way with the sparkle in our eyes,
We stepped into eternity, overflowing with the magic of love.
In this loving life of God,
We enlightened our hearts by growing with love.

Crime perfeito – Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!
