Songs I Like (38) | beetleypete

“Stoney End” is a song written by Laura Nyro and released in February 1967 on her debut album ‘More Than a New Discovery’. I heard it on the radio as a teenager, and really liked it. Hard to classify in a genre, the lyrics suggest a Country Music song but it doesn’t sound like one. It was covered later by Barbra Streisand, I much preferred her version and bought the album it was from, in 1970.

Rather than upset fans of the original, I offer both versions.

Got Wisdom? Use It! | From Behind the Pen

It is unwise to seek wisdom if you refuse to use it.

Sometimes we eat and drink words, quotes, and messages that cease to exist if we do not apply their practicality. Sometimes we make poor choices, but when we learn from them we grow, listening to the tender whispers of courage and then respond accordingly.

What befell our love story? – Saania’s diary – reflections, learnings, sparkles

What befell our love story?

I thought this was the dawn of a love story
When you asked my name, wanted to get to know me
I queried of yours, the passions you pursue
You adorned me with a smile and I was lost in you

Why did you bid adieu to our love story?
I thought you truly longed to get to know me
Delve into my dreams, learn what I adore
But now you’re gone, while I still want more

Under starlit skies, we whispered secrets in the dark
Every moment felt destined, you enchanted my heart
But now you’ve gone away, like mist in the sky
This was all but a dream, huh. One beautiful lie?

Our final tryst, a silent stroll through the park
A shadow loomed, as if we’d lost the spark
The day we first met, your eyes were on me
But what you saw then, you no longer see

Why did you bid adieu to our love story?
I thought you truly longed to get to know me
Ask about my dreams, learn what I adore
But now you’re gone, while I still want more

Here I linger, clutching onto our past
Charmed by a story that wasn’t meant to last
Perhaps you moved on, found someone new
Yet my foolish little heart remains lost in you

Food security in a world of overshoot – Stigmatis News

…Based on Ecological Footprint and biocapacity assessments (2), 38% of the global population (or more than 3 billion people) live in a country where domestic food biocapacity is below the amount of food the country’s population consumes and with a lower than global average income per person. The second condition makes a significant difference, since countries with high relative income have a comparative advantage when purchasing food in international markets. It is easier for them to import food. Conversely, countries with lower income than world average have less leverage to purchase food on international markets, which heightens their risk of food insecurity…
