Monday Notes: Too Much Information in the Information Age | K E Garland

“Do you remember when your daddy used to make sun tea?” I recently asked my youngest daughter.

“I do,” she said. “But guess what? I read that sun tea is bad for you.”

“Huh?” I asked, skepticism brewing.

“Yeah. Something about the bacteria.”

She was right. Bacteria breed in warm water, and the sun is rarely hotter than 130 degrees, which is ten degrees short of how tea should be brewed. Thus, sun tea is not healthy.

While I like to be as healthy as possible, and I like to read and learn new information, in the 21st century, a deluge of daily facts is beginning to feel daunting.

For example, I recently watched seven parts of a nine-part documentary on health and longevity. One of the main points was about how important the microbiome is. I’m sure you’ve heard by now that our gut health is an integral part of our overall wellbeing. Guess what we should do if we’re concerned about our microbiomes?

  1. Consider a probiotic.
  2. Consider a prebiotic.
  3. Find a bottle of enzymes.
  4. Eat only organic food.
  5. Exercise, but not 30 minutes a day for five days as the CDC has suggested, but rather, intermittently, all day long, as much as possible, because that’s what our ancestors did…you know, the ones who hunted and gathered.
  6. Make sure your food is non-GMO, which is no easy feat because in the States, those who grow non-GMO food are responsible for labeling their food, not farmers who harm us with genetically modified food.
  7. Get a colonoscopy, but don’t wait ‘til you’re 50. Nope. That’s old news. The recommended age is now 45.

So, yeah. That’s just one aspect of our physical health. What about mental health? I’m glad you asked…

Trump is Guilty | The Weekly Sift

Twelve ordinary Americans reviewed documents, listened to witnesses, and concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump is guilty of 34 felonies. His defenders almost entirely avoid disputing the facts of the case, but argue instead that he should get away with those crimes…

…The jury found Trump guilty. This means that (after considering all the evidence) they were convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that the following facts are true: Trump had sex with a porn star, had his fixer buy her silence to keep voters in the 2016 election from finding out, reimbursed his fixer, and cooked the books of the Trump Organization to hide those payments from election regulators.

Those are no longer mere accusations or “alleged” facts. They have been established in a court of law…

Embrace of Memories  – Kaushal Kishore

Sometimes, I feel like doing nothing,

To lose myself in a world unseen…

A world so near, yet far from bustling,

The world of my memories serene…

.

Some memories, velvety soft, cradling,

Offering comfort, floating free…

Others rough, profoundly grounding,

Preventing me from slipping surely…

.

Certain memories laugh, they tickle,

Drawing smiles, a gentle nudge…

Others weep, their tears trickle,

Reminding me that days do budge….

.

As the world spins, swiftly fleeting,

I move forward, step by step…

My memories beside me, journeying,

Guiding me through life’s adept…

.

They support me, ever knowing,

Toward the simple goal of living bright…

Close friends, in their presence glowing,

Complementing my life day and night…

.

To spend with them a moment’s grace,

Feels wonderful, a cherished chance…

In their warm and tender embrace,

In memories, my soul does dance…

.
