Pulso Firme – Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Women’s Strike 6/24/2024 | Women’s March

No spending, No work, No school
On the 2nd anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, girls, women, and allies go on strike. Participants do not go to work, do not go to school, and/or do not spend even 1 penny. As our privacy, body autonomy, healthcare, and travel rights are being removed, we remove ourselves for 1 day en masse. We stand together for all Americans to show that the nation needs us.

H5N1 Is Increasingly Adapting to Mammals | UC Davis

Highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza viruses are becoming increasingly flexible and are adapting to mammals in new ways that could have global consequences for humans, wildlife and livestock, according to a new study of a massive outbreak among elephant seals in Argentina in 2023.

The study, published as a preprint and co-led by University of California, Davis’ School of Veterinary Medicine and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) in Argentina, shows clear mammal-to-mammal transmission of the virus. It states the outbreak is the first known, multinational transmission of the virus in mammals ever observed globally, with the same virus appearing in several pinniped species across different countries over a short period of time.

The study’s genomic analysis showed the virus is now evolving into separate avian and marine mammal clades in South America, which is unprecedented. There is growing concern that H5N1 viruses adapted to mammal transmission could jump to other species, including people…

Report: More than 200 symptoms tied to long COVID | CIDRAP

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 5.3% of Americans currently have long COVID, with a significant proportion of those experiencing disability from the condition.

In today’s report, more than 200 symptoms are formerly listed as possible signs of long COVID, affecting every organ system. Women are twice as likely to men to experience long COVID, but people who have never received a diagnosis or even a positive COVID-19 test may be experiencing symptoms of the condition.

Though people with mild or even asymptomatic cases of acute COVID can develop long COVID, the report recognizes that people whose infection required hospitalization are two to three times more likely to experience long COVID than are those who were not hospitalized.

Similarities to other chronic conditions

Emphasized throughout the report is the similarity long COVID has to other chronic conditions, including myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), fibromyalgia, and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).

Like those conditions there is no current way to treat long COVID, though long COVID does have a better prognosis than does ME/CFS.

Yulia Navalnaya and the Russian Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), established by her late husband Alexei Navalny, received DW’s 2024 Freedom of Speech Award at a ceremony in Berlin on Wednesday.

Navalnaya told the audience that free speech had been her husband and his organization’s “most important weapon” during the last 13 years while trying to oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“During these years, Putin has destroyed elections. During these years, Putin has prohibited protests. During these years, Putin has suppressed independent media. And he has tried to silence anyone who said what he didn’t like. But he failed. Yes, he killed my husband, Alexei Navalny. But he didn’t silence him and his ideas,” she said.
