In 1979, British music producer and musician Trevor Horn, performing as ‘The Buggles’, foretold the death of mainstream radio as the way music was presented with the release of the song ‘Video Killed The Radio Star’. It became the first pop video to be shown on MTV in 1981, though the record only reached number 40 in the US charts.
Elsewhere, it was a huge worldwide hit, including in the UK where it reached number one. It was something of a one-hit wonder, though Horn went on to become incredibly successful in the music business as a bass guitarist and producer, and is still working at the age of 75.
