October 4, 2024 – Preparing the Boundaries for Hunting Season | Saint Andrews Forest Farm

Amanita persicina found in groups throughout the farm near pines and oaks.

We went over to put up boundary markers and no hunting or trespassing signs as well as forage for mushrooms. Hunting season begins Saturday October 5th (early archery season starts). We took down trees growing too closely together and used the trunks as a natural fencing inside the tree line along the road frontage to discourage hunters from chasing deer onto our property. We’ve also been told hunters run dogs through properties to scare up deer. We are trying to create a hunt free zone, except for mushrooms, and to keep anyone chasing animals off our land. We also will put up several more cameras later this weekend. We had technical issues yesterday but worked it out this morning.

Biden presses recessed Congress for Hurricane Helene aid as death toll rises – UPI.com

…Biden said FEMA has the necessary resources for implementing its emergency response, but other agencies do not.

He said the Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program will run out of money in a “matter of weeks” and before Congress is scheduled to reconvene in November.

“I warned the Congress of this potential shortfall even before Hurricane Helene landed on America’s shores,” Biden said.

Biden said he asked Congress to allocate more funding for the SBA several times in recent months, including as part of the recent resolution to fund the federal government and prevent a shutdown.

“Now the need is even more urgent,” Biden said. “Small businesses and individuals in affected areas depend on disaster loans as a critical lifeline during difficult times.”

Biden also said the FEMA Disaster Relief Fund faces a possible shortfall by the end of the year and would have to forgo long-term recovery activities without additional funding resources.

“Congress should provide FEMA additional resources to avoid forcing that kind of unnecessary trade-off,” Biden said.

Biden’s call for more FEMA funding comes amid criticism that Congress this year allocated $650 million for the federal Shelter and Services Program to help migrant support groups, communities, non-profits and state and local governments provide shelter, food and medical care for migrants.

Those funds don’t come from FEMA’s budget, but the agency distributes them.

दिल की जीत / Heart’s Win – Kaushal Kishore

दिल और दिमाग की किसी भी लड़ाई में,

दिल को ही गाने दो उसका विजयी गीत…

क्योंकि दिमाग के जीत जाने पर भी दिल,

रहने नही देता उसको जीत को एक जीत…

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

In the struggle between heart and mind,

Let the heart prevail, leave mind behind…

Though the mind may boast a fleeting reign,

The heart quickly reclaims its throne again…

Helene destroyed my hometown. I don’t want climate change stories of false hope – Los Angeles Times

…A friend awoke at 4 a.m. in his girlfriend’s place in Asheville and saw the waters rising at an alarming rate. They narrowly escaped. Her third-floor apartment flooded and she lost everything. Her neighbor lost his life. My sister’s friend had to leap from his window into a tree with his two cats and was stranded there, above violent floodwaters, for eight hours. At least two friends’ homes were swept away. My brother’s community art studio, along with most of the River Arts District, was destroyed. People are trapped with dwindling food and no access to water, hundreds of roads are impassable, helicopters and mules are the only ways to get supplies to many areas, and rescuers can’t locate survivors because people don’t have reliable cell service or power. On Wednesday night, my best friend there texted: “I’m in tears. They’re finding bodies in trees.”

…Yes, we can still prevent the worst impacts and must demand our governments scale solutions and act urgently, but we cannot minimize the horrors unfolding now, or that it will get worse in the coming years.

Fossil fuel executives have known since the 1970s that burning oil, coal and gas would cause escalating climate catastrophes and worldwide suffering. Yet they lied, sacrificed our safety for their greed and just unleashed an apocalypse on my hometown. Their actions will condemn children today to a planet that’s more hell than Earth by the end of the century if we don’t stop them. It isn’t just a tragedy; it’s a crime against humanity.

…I need help making meaning of all this, and stories have always been how humans make sense of our world. But as I grieve an unimaginable loss, the last thing I want are optimistic stories about hope. As climate scientist Kate Marvel says: “We need courage, not hope, to face climate change.”
