On the sixth day of the war, Ahmed Jaber climbed into a car. It was supposed to take him to the southern Gaza Strip. To safety. Just a few hours earlier, the Israeli army had called on Gaza residents to flee to the south, and the Jaber family obeyed the order. An uncle was at the wheel, his father in the passenger seat and 14-year-old Ahmed sat in the back with his brother, two years younger, and their mother between them. They drove for just a few minutes. And then their car exploded.
