Objective A: Reduce pollution during plastic production.
Objective B: Improve post-use materials management.
Objective C: Prevent trash and micro/nanoplastics from entering waterways and remove escaped trash from the environment.
Some of the notable suggested actions include:
- Eliminating (aka banning) common littered, single use plastics
- Providing funding to improve composting for “compostable” plastics
- Pushing extended producer responsibility which makes manufacturers responsible for collecting products for recycling at their end of life
- Requiring the Federal Government, the largest purchaser, to choose preferable products to create market demand
- Standardizing measurement of microplastics in air, water and oceans
The Biden administration is already issuing executive orders related to this strategy, which of course, can be undone by future administrations.
