Videos: Too Darn Hot for Ella Fitzgerald with Cool Tips – Happiness Between Tails by da-AL

Is it hot in your part of the world? Last night, it sure was here. All my tossing and turning is resulting in my having serious trouble writing today (read about my books here).
People flock to Los Angeles, especially near the beach where I’m at, because we’ve got the best weather anywhere. No matter how high the mercury reaches midday, there are usually breezes throughout and a twenty degree drop in temperature by bedtime.
My little home has wonderful cross-ventilation, which makes the idea of air-conditioning a bad idea, environmentally and financially. Plenty of neighbors, though, are so spoiled that they get cranky if their thermometers aren’t within a degree of their favorite number.
I’m not as fussy — so long as I can sleep well! Yesterday, however, there were no breezes to cool my place. When I woke at 3 a.m., it was still 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26.6 degrees Celsius)! Because misery loves company, especially when it’s dressed up as constructive research, I found this video to share with you, about how keep a body cool…
When Ella Fitzgerald sang “Too Darn Hot” from the ‘Cole Porter Songbook’ in 1956 (conducted and arranged by Buddy Bregman) she made it sound fun — almost…
What do you do to sleep through a sweaty night?

‘We are not playing around’: Harris calls on Black women to mobilize for 2024 election – Los Angeles Times

Vice President Kamala Harris ramped up her call Wednesday for Black women to mobilize for the 2024 election, telling members of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority that the nation was counting on them to energize, organize, register voters and get them to the polls.
“I believe we face a choice between two different visions for our nation: one focused on the future, the other focused on the past,” Harris said as she delivered a keynote speech to a packed room at Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s Grand Boulé convention in Indianapolis. “With your support, I am fighting for our nation’s future.”
Harris — a graduate of Howard University, a historically black college, and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha — has repeatedly leaned into her connections with Black college women on the campaign trail, urging her sorority sisters to step up in the months ahead of the 2024 election.

Trump told nephew to let his disabled son die, then move to Florida, book says | Politics books | The Guardian
Donald Trump told his nephew he should let his disabled son die, then “move down to Florida”, the nephew writes in a new book, calling the comment “appalling”.

“Wait!” Fred C Trump III writes. “What did he just say? That my son doesn’t recognise me? That I should just let him die?
“Did he really just say that?”
The shocking exchange is described in All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way, which will be published next week. The Guardian obtained a copy.
The book also includes a description of the former US president and current Republican nominee using the N-word, news that dropped into a presidential election in which Trump faces Kamala Harris, the first woman of colour to be vice-president.
‘Miracle’ new anti-HIV jab could revolutionise virus prevention
A “miracle” new anti-HIV jab giving protection from the deadly virus for six months is being hailed as a chance to revolutionise prevention of an infection which still kills one person every minute.
Excitement about the potential of Lenacapavir and discussions on how to cut the price of the costly injection have dominated this week’s 25th annual international Aids conference.
The drug brings hope of helping to solve a stubborn problem which has been holding back efforts to curb HIV and Aids, particularly in Africa.
Protective pills, called pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP), to stop people getting HIV are already effective, but need to be taken every day.
