Enjoy Sunday in Kingston tomorrow (July 28), with birds and fashion! – Petchary’s Blog

Kingston is stunningly hot. It does not help that trees are being continuously cut down to make way for ugly apartment blocks and “luxury” homes. So before I start: Please, remember to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the heat if you are out and about around town, especially in the midday hours!

But, enough of the complaining. One of the few green spaces left in the city is Hope Botanical Gardens. If you feel like getting up early tomorrow morning (it’s the coolest time of day) why not go down to the Gardens for a little birdwatching and bird learning session with BirdLife Jamaica’s experts? The small cost will also get you the loan of a pair of binoculars (a must-have for any birder). We hope to see you there.

Then when you have taken some refreshments, you may go from uptown to downtown for some fun, entertainment, more refreshments of the cultural kind, style and fashion.

Kingston Creative is hosting the monthly Artwalk Festival tomorrow on Water Lane. This month it will host the Faces of Summer Downtown Model Search by SAINT International.  Interested models who would like to be the “new face” of SAINT should come out at 9:00 am to the F&B Downtown Parking Lot in Water Lane, in blue jeans and a white T shirt, where they will be assessed, trained by top models and one lucky hopeful will be awarded an international modeling contract that could change their life. Entry in the model search is free and the winners will receive contracts with Saint International and will also participate in a fashion show at 2:30 pm accompanied by professional Saint International models. There will also be a Downtown Beat Street Bus Tour from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. and the Fashion Ova Style- The Artwalk Festival will be at Water Lane, 107 Harbour Street from 11 am to 5 pm. Parking is available in the F&B Parking Lot and across the street at the Rubis gas station. There will be live performances by Blaize Shell Shell and Kalyra.
