Marii Freire – Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

How 3 diverse families joined to fight injustice during WWII – AsAmNews

My grandfather now had worked in the Carson Ranch, you know, probably 12 to 13 years and had
enough knowledge and saved enough that he would have loved to have bought his own farmland,” she said. “But the alien land was at the time restricted Japanese from owning land because they weren’t citizens. So, he was able to lease 40 acres of property in Westminster from an older woman who was not farming.”

The Supreme Court’s Insane Decision to Gut Ban on Bump Stocks for Guns | Diane Ravitch’s blog

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled today to overturn a ban on bump stocks, a device that turns a semiautomatic rifle into a gun capable of firing 400-800 rounds a minute. The ban was imposed in 2018 by the Trump administration after the massacre of 60 people at a music festival in Las Vegas, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. The shooter fired from a high floor in a hotel overlooking the festival; he used a bump stock.

The 6-3 decision was written by Justice Clarence Thomas, who ruled that a bump stock does not convert a semiautomatic rifle into a machine gun. A 1986 law prohibits civilians from owning machine guns.

The question was whether the bump stock could fire multiple rounds with a single pull of the trigger or required multiple pulls.

The National Rifle Association must be celebrating. Responsible gun owners are not.

NOAA forecasts larger-than-average Gulf of Mexico ‘dead zone’ bereft of oxygen – UPI.com

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has forecast a larger than average Gulf of Mexico “dead zone” this year of 5,847 square miles. That’s about the size of Connecticut.

It’s a hypoxic area of low oxygen and it can kill fish and other marine life. It appears every summer, but the average size over 37 years is 5,205 square miles, according to NOAA.

U.S. sanctions Israelis accused of blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza – Los Angeles Times

The Biden administration took the unusual step Friday of blacklisting a group of Israelis implicated in the looting and destruction of lifesaving humanitarian aid destined for Palestinians trapped in the Gaza Strip after eight months of brutal war.

It is only the second time in recent years the U.S. has punished Israeli groups for their violent and sometimes deadly actions against Palestinians.

Last year, the State Department announced it was barring U.S. entry to dozens of Jewish settlers who attacked Palestinian villagers in the West Bank, destroyed their properties and attempted to seize their land.

Several hundred Palestinians in the West Bank have been killed in recent months in these attacks and in Israeli military operations.

The latest U.S. measure targets a group known as Tzav 9, Hebrew for “Order 9,” a reference to call-up orders for Israeli reservists. U.S. officials say the group has ties to extremist Jewish settlers in West Bank settlements.

“For months, individuals from Tzav 9 have repeatedly sought to thwart the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including by blockading roads, sometimes violently, along their route from Jordan to Gaza, including in the West Bank,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement. “They also have damaged aid trucks and dumped life-saving humanitarian aid onto the road.”

US designates Scandinavian neo-Nazi group and three leaders as terrorists | The far right | The Guardian

The United States on Friday designated a Scandinavian neo-Nazi group and three of its leaders as terrorists, saying the Nordic Resistance Movement poses a threat to Americans.

NMR, known by its Swedish acronym, is the largest neo-Nazi group in Sweden and has branches in Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Finland, where it has been banned since 2020.

The state department added the movement and the leaders to its Specially Designated Global Terrorist list, meaning that any US-based assets will be frozen and they will be blocked from using the US financial system.
