As She Turns 79 in Prison, ‘The Lady’ Remains a Symbol of Hope and Resilience in Myanmar

Protest leader Dr. Tayzar San posted a picture of himself holding flowers, joining the flower strike to mark detained leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday.

“I see her as a national leader who resists without bowing down, which is also why she is honored worldwide as the ‘Steel Rose’ for her resilience, and is deeply respected and loved by the people [of Myanmar],” he said.

Ko Nan Lin from the Anti-Junta Alliance Yangon (AJAY) echoed that sentiment, saying that while there are people who like and dislike her, it is a fact that she remains an icon of Myanmar’s struggle for democracy.

RIP, Willie Mays | Mock Paper Scissors

RIP, Willie Mays

D-Cap found the Bewitched clip. This might be silly pop culture to us now, but Willie Mays was cool enough to do it. Willie Mays was cool, per President Obama:

Last month, MLB announced that it would add 10 hits to Mays’ official stat record after the league said it would include records from the Negro Leagues. I’m glad he lived long enough to see that.

This charted at in the UK and in the U.S.  Wikipedia says “It was also a major hit in many European countries,” but they don’t show any specific chart ratings apart from the UK and U.S.

I typically prefer to play live versions when I can, but in the case of both yesterday’s and today’s, the studio versions were far superior to the live ones I found.  Maybe tomorrow …
