Inner Disarmament – Silent Songs of Sonsnow

“Peace in the world depends on peace within. If we have that we can approach problems in a spirit of compassion, dialogue and respect for the rights of others—always a better solution than resorting to a use of weapons and force. External disarmament depends on inner disarmament.”

His Holiness the great 14th Dalai Lama

Conservative US lawmakers are pushing for an end to no-fault divorce | US news | The Guardian

Some prominent conservative lawmakers and commentators are advocating for ending no-fault divorce, laws that exist in all 50 US states and allow a person to end a marriage without having to prove a spouse did something wrong, like commit adultery or domestic violence.

The socially conservative, and often religious, rightwing opponents of such divorce laws are arguing that the practice deprives people – mostly men – of due process and hurt families, and by extension, society. Republican lawmakers in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas have discussed eliminating or increasing restrictions on no-fault marriage laws.

Defenders of the laws, which states started passing a half-century ago, see legislation and arguments to repeal them as the latest effort to restrict women’s rights – following the overturning of Roe v Wade and passage of abortion bans around the country – and say that without such protections, the country would return to an earlier era when women were often trapped in abusive marriages.

Bolivia: Top general arrested after coup attempt fails – DW – 06/27/2024

Bolivian authorities arrested the outgoing general commander of the army, Juan Jose Zuniga, after troops pulled back from the square.

“We denounce irregular mobilizations of some units of the Bolivian Army. Democracy must be respected,” Arce said on social media as the military began to arrive at Plaza Murillo in central La Paz.

He appointed new military commanders from the presidential palace as the coup was in full swing. They then ordered troops in the square to return home.

Thousands of supporters of Arce began to flood the square while waving Bolivian flags as the soldiers withdrew.

Army chief sacked and arrested

Zuniga was automatically sacked when Arce appointed new military commanders.

Local television channels earlier showed footage of Arce confronting Zuniga in the hallway of the presidential palace.

“I am your captain, and I order you to withdraw your soldiers, and I will not allow this insubordination,” Arce said.

Zuniga and the troops backing him eventually retreated from the area as the coup attempt failed, and Zuniga eventually was arrested.

“We denounce irregular mobilizations of some units of the Bolivian Army,” Arce said earlier in a translated post on X. “Democracy must be respected.”
